For a 7-foot white big guy, he's quick, with excellent mobility, young (age 23), athletic, very serviceable and finishing strong to the hoop.
From the clip, he's quicker than Brad Miller, Kaman, POB!, even Nowitzki.
With length, mobility and shot-blocking qualities, I believe he can do these better than Powe, BBD, and POB.

whats his race have anything to do with his ability?  if you got game, you got game....period.

Stephen Hill got game! kidding, but if O'Bryant can't get minutes over guys 5 inches shorter than him at this point in the season, than i'd be happy to give it a shot.

No racist remark here. Yeah you're right, it's about that he got game.

i wasnt trying to imply it was a racist remark, just wondering why u listed his race, as if it had anything to do with his skill set.  no worries.

Hill wasn't good enough to make the roster of the worst team in the league.

very true. but have to wonder whether POB could make the Thunder roster either. they've got more project big men than any team in the league.

added note:

"THUNDER RECALL STEVEN HILL FROM 66ERS

Tulsa, Okla., December 11, 2008 – Oklahoma City Thunder General Manager Sam Presti announced today that the team has recalled center Steven Hill from the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League.

Hill, who was assigned to Tulsa on November 21st, averaged 9.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 25.6 minutes per contest. Hill appeared in five games, including three starts, for the 66ers."

hardly tore it up down in the d-league...

Agree. OKC had a lot of project big men. He may not have just fit to the system of that team but he's got a lot to offer than POB.

I'm fairly certain he couldn't.

I say waive him now.  Sign some other C for 10 day contracts that have more actual experience as placeholders.  If someone plays well enough (and PJ, Zo or Smith do not become available), then sign them for the rest of the season.

Players like
Othella Harrington
David Harrison
Earl Barron
or even
Pollard

None of them are anything to get excited about, but I think all would be an upgrade.

considering the 10-day contract is now an option, i agree. but i wonder whether you cut cassell first with the agreement he coaches, and could be resigned if needed going forward. keep POB, even if only for practice purposes, but at least as insurance if perk goes down again, etc....

Doc's dilemma: giving young guys like Pruitt and POB real court experience, versus having the home court advantage in the Eastern Conference.  I would rather see us develop guys like POB and Pruitt now so that our team is stronger by the end of the year, and to hell with the HCA.  Besides, in all likelihood, it means we may drop to the second seed. If we can't beat Cleveland at least once on their court, we don't deserve to repeat as champs.

The big guys that are killing our big guys in the shaded lane if you've noticed lately are young big guys like Al Horford, Howard, Oden, Aldridge, Bynum, Maxiel, etc.  The young guys aren't exactly showing respect to our veteran players.  They're challenging us in the boards (both defensive and offensive ends) with their youth coupled with athleticism.
We need bigs that are young and quick.

If the Celtics are signing a backup C because POB isn't good enough, why would they keep POB?

Cassell can be a useful player.  He showed that during some of the playoff games.

I imagine we will see a lot more of Cassell after the all-star break and into the playoffs.

The Celtics need a Big that can actually play.

Right, he may be. So sign him again when they want him to play.

Meanwhile, thought we were talking about a 10-day to test a big guy. At least POB has been in the system all year and COULD play in a pinch if need be, which if Perk is injured and our 10-day fellow fails, is very possible.
