I'm thinking new salary structures are

(1) Top 10 at your position = $40+mil
(2) Top 15 at your position = $30+mil
(3) Top 20 at your position = $25+mil

That is me spitballing. Guesstimates.

I would have had Quickley at #3 category. I feel Toronto are overvaluing him a bit. Then maybe my guesstimates are wrong. Maybe it is

(1) Top 10 at your position = $40+mil
(2) Top 15 at your position = $35+mil
(3) Top 20 at your position = $30+mil

With Toronto paying a premium for percevied potential bringing Quickley's payday up to $35mil per year.

Hardaway and 3 2nds to the Pistons for Grimes. Savvy money move by the Mavericks.

Just getting Hardaway off the roster is addition by subtraction.

I am surprised Detroit gave up their cap space so cheaply. They should have gotten a first. One of the articles I saw about this move when it was rumour made it sound like Detroit was interested in Hardaway both as a player and as an avenue to add additional assets (those 2nd round picks). They shouldn't have valued him as a player. He does nothing for them as a 20 win level team.

Maybe. He's an aggressive shooter that's now on a team that desperately needs spacing. That alone may be helpful.

$35mil for Quickley. They must be banking on him to be a 3rd / 4th best player on a title contender. I buy him as a 4th best player. He would need to improve to be a reliable #3.

I like Quickley as a scoring PG complement to Scottie Barnes as a point forward type. A PG who is comfortable off the ball and has more of a scoring mentality. I feel that is a good fit for S Barnes since he needs the ball in his hands so much due in part to his sketchy jump-shot

I am hoping Detroit goes small & athletic. I'd love to see them play this as their starting lineup next year. Run and gun. Play fast. Jack up shots. Open court attack.

G: Jade Ivey
G: Cade Cunningham
F: Ron Holland
F: Ausar Thompson
C: Jalen Duren

Then off the bench

G: Sasser
G/F: Tim Hardaway
F: Fontecchio
F/C: Isaiah Stewart

A decent four man bench. I don't like I Stewart as a starter. His skill level is too low for a PF. I'd love to see him move into a 6th man role. Sasser is a nice 3+D PG. Fontecchio as their most solid two-way SF. Tim Hardaway as a gunner / explosive scorer for when the two young starter forwards are misfiring too badly.

I imagine they will start Fontecchio instead due to his shooting or more accurately the lack of shooting of Holland / Ausar. And I Stewart at PF. A more dull team. Maybe more effective. But dull.

Toronto

G: Quickley
G: RJ Barrett
F: Gradey Dick, Bruce Brown Jr
F: Scottie Barnes
C: Jakob Poeltl, K Olynyk

A pretty solid 7 man rotation. I like the 1-2 punch of Poeltl and Olynyk at center. An interior big and a perimeter big. Can play together where desired. Two high level bench players in B Brown and K Olynyk. Strong start to build a deep team.

I am not sure who they play on the wing alongside RJ Barrett. Do they want Barrett to be a SF? Or a SG? Gradey Dick was showing solid improvement during his rookie year. He may start. Or may have to start to get another shooter out there to provide adequate spacing & in order to keep B Brown on the bench.

They have Gary Trent Jr as a FA. He hasn't worked out that well in Toronto. I doubt they re-sign him.

Lot of end of bench players beyond those guys. Boucher, Vezenkov, Davion Mitchell, Ja'Kobe Walter. I can't even keep track of who is and who isn't on that team now. They had 30 players play for them last year! It was like a revolving door.

They would be better if they could add a legit two guard and slide RJ Barrett to SF. They need another ball-handler / passer / outside shot maker. Gradey Dick gives the shot making but is more limited as a ball-handler and passer. They need another guy to share the load with Quickley & RJ Barrett as supporting connectivity players behind Scottie Barnes.

They just spent all their cap space re-signing Quickley. So I don't know how they add that player. I don't know if their first round pick are up to it.

Detroit is funny to me, I like a lot of their players individually, but starting three guys in Holland, Thompson and Duran who are non-shooters is just going to be a killer for their offense.

You can have a good NBA offense with 1 non shooter, if you have two you can maybe figure out a way to get to okay. But three is a death sentence.

Wow. And people were questioning whether DWhite would be worth that much. He's worth way more.

Quickley is a lucky dude. That's a lot of money for a whatever player.

Oh yeah, I agree. It is terrible. But so is every DET lineup. I'd rather watch the young athletic guys that are fun to watch than a pair of mediocre forwards like Fontecchio & Isaiah Stewart.

Quickley just got a 5/175M contract. Insanity
Wow!! What will White get now?

D White is a max contract.

OG Anunoby got max offers from "rival teams". I presume Philadelphia. If Anunoby can get the max, so too can D White.

Anunoby actually took less money to stay in NY. Less money was 5yr $225mil. That is what less money should look like for D White.
then they should trade White now
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

What would White get if he signed an extension now?  How much less than what Quickley just signed for?

If it is significant, White will likely wait for free agency, give Boston first crack at siging him to a new (close to max) deal, and if they don't, go somewhere that will.  He has earned a lot of value.  Makes me second guess why the Celtics didn't try to take care of this before the start of the season.  D White's market value has jumped, along with the market, since then.

Why? To make the team worse and hurt out chances at a repeat to save wyc some money?

They will extend him at something like 30-32million a year. Why posters care about the owners money so much I?ll never understand

Jalen Smith to opt out.  Not a large contract, any way we can get him on a one-year deal and maybe let him chase money later?

If I'm White, I ask for the brinks truck lol. Well-deserved after those few years of performance with Boston.

And if I'm Brad, if I can't pay White then I try to find a package to ship White out.

Interesting summer
