With their 33rd loss of the season on Thursday, the Wizards have clinched their 45th consecutive season with fewer than 50 wins.

When I lived in DC during the height of the Wall-Beal years, it was funny how their fans saw us as some kind of rival.  There was that one fun series, but some franchises are not playing with the same goals as others.

I think the success of the West over the last couple of decades really skews things for me, because it feels like Wizards put together a few decent teams over the years, so if I didn't know better, I would have thought they cracked 50 wins a couple of times.  But I suppose making the 2nd round and having a chance at the ECF is different when you come from a conference that might have only 2-3 50 win teams vs the one that has 7-8.

You had those John Wall/Beal teams, one that went to a 7 game series with Boston in '17.  Topped out at 49 wins.

You had the teams with 3 All-Stars (Arenas, Jamison, Caron Butler) maxed out at 45 wins.  (To be fair, only had 2 All-Stars in a single year, but those 3 guys had 7 All-Star appearances between them in a 4 year window).

You had a young team with Webber, Howard, and unknown Ben Wallace, and an All-NBA vet in Rod Strickland that looked good and against the 69-win Bulls in Round 1.  They lost 3-0, but 2 of the games were decided by 6 total points.  That team was about to break out, right?  They never improved on their 44 win season.

As bad as the drought is, at least they've had somethings to be excited about over the years.  The above mentioned teams, plus the Michael Jordan comeback tour, multiple #1 picks, several All-Stars in the 80's/early 90's (Bernard King, Michael Adams, Moses and Jeff Malone).  It could be worse (though looking around, I don't think there's a franchise I'd pick over them).

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Oh yup that 2017 playoff run when we had a Big 3 of Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, and Al Horford with a young rookie Jaylen Brown.

IT4 went off for like 50+ points after her sister's passing. And then these two teams kept competing each other for another season.

I mean Washington has only had 5 50 win seasons in their history and none of those are the year they won the title. In 78 they were only 44-38.  That 79 season when they won 54, they lost in the Finals.  They made the Finals 2 other seasons, 75 when they were 60-22 (their best regular season) and 71 when they were 42-40 (and playing in Baltimore).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

Are the Warriors postponing games because a coach died?

They have to. Give them time and space for them to grieve and mentally recollect themselves. Nothing wrong with that.

I guess ESPN had to flex out the second-header DAL/GSW game with BKN/LAL though.

I've never heard of this happening...

Charlotte postponed 2 games when Bobby Phills died mid-season in 2000 (1/12 vs Chicago and 1/14 vs Knicks).  That's the only other mid-season death that comes to mind for me.

Edit - also Lakers postponed 1 game after Kobe Bryant's death.

The Lakers and Hawks have been in deep trade discussions around Dejounte Murray, per @jovanbuha (theathletic.com/5202959/2024/0…). Los Angeles’ latest offer to Atlanta for Murray: D’Angelo Russell Jalen Hood-Schifino 2029 first-round pick Additional draft compensation Talks are… pic.twitter.com/BejNzorwVY

No idea if that's reliable.

Reddit seemed to think this was out-of-date.  The general consensus I saw over there is that Atlanta asked for Reaves instead and talks went nowhere from there.

Take that for what it's worth.  I didn't see an original article to back that up, so they may be talking out of their butts.

What is the purpose of that for Atlanta? It should start with Reaves. Even so, they should definitely be getting better offers from other teams.

It's unfortunate. The ’70s Bullets teams were really talented, with Elvin Hayes, Wes Unseld, Bob Dandridge, Phil Chenier, Truck Robinson. And I loved their uniforms, and though it's not PC, I love the name "Bullets," and how the two Ls in the Bullets logo were arms reaching up for a basketball. "Wizards" just doesn't cut it for me—sounds minor-leaguish.

My 2nd ever Champion jersey (Kemp was #1) was a Juwan Howard Bullets jersey.  Still have it.  Loved that logo with the arms.

My daughter and I were trying to predict which franchise drafts Cooper Flagg.  Sadly, I've predicted Charlotte.

Jokic = 25ppg 12rpg 9apg

It is insane. 12 rebounds and 9 assists a night. It doesn't even make sense. 65% TS%.
