Giannis scores 4.5 more ppg on 0.1 LESS shots.  Giannis rebounds better and passes better.  He has a significantly higher WS and WS per 48 as well as BPM and VORP.  Tatum is obviously a better shooter but that's about it.  Giannis is still a good deal better than Tatum

I’m not a big Giannis guy but trying to argue Tatum is better than him is insane behavior. Giannis still a whole other tier above

Take away all the favors that the refs are giving him and maybe JT closes the gap. Giannis just gets away with pushing, travelling, charging, etc. Add to that the favorable whistle that gives him a lot of freethrows.

I’m not a fan of Giannis I’m just not delusional. He’s won a championship and fmvp, a 2 time mvp and won defensive player of the year. It’s not close.

Giannis is clearly the better player, but I think the gap is mainly on offense, particularly Giannis' passing and better overall shot selection/getting to the line. I put them as roughly equal defenders given that Tatum is much more versatile and is a very high to elite level perimeter defender. Giannis simply can't guard on the perimeter for sustained periods, which is one of the reasons that we're a very difficult matchup for them and why even with a DPOY-level center Giannis is not able to bring that team higher than around 20th in defensive rating.

If Tatum's shot selection was better and he was more aggressive taking it to the rim instead of relying so much on the jumper, he could really challenge for the best player in the league status right up there with Giannis. He just hurts himself so much by constantly not taking smart shots and falling back on difficult, iso jumpshots.

Embiid getting surgery

He still has a chance to return before the season but even then idk if it's worth it. Might be better to go through the surgery + healing process and get ready for the Paris Olympics + 2024-25 NBA Season. Don't want to risk coming back early and aggravating things further

I agree. All I’m saying is the gap could be a lot closer if the refs gave them the same treatment.

Even if he comes back, I think his conditioning is going to be pretty shot.

Interesting. Doubt he's back before the end of the season or tries to play the playoffs.

Makes the East standings a bit more interesting now, especially making it more likely that Milwaukee will stay in that 2-3 matchup. Who do we think would give Milwaukee the most trouble in the second round that we'd like to see at the second or third seed? Feels like a wash between NYK and Cleveland right now. Both have the perimeter scorers that Milwaukee really struggles to defend.

As I think we discussed with a meniscus surgery you can either repair it, or cut the damaged piece out. If you just cut it out its a shorter return time (like 6-8 weeks) but long-term risk of complications like arthritis. With a repair it's a longer return time, likely 3-6 months.

They likely don't know which it's going to be yet, they'll probably decide during the surgery once they get a better look at the damage, hence the vague wording of the Embiid news.

So its possible he could return before the start of the playoffs if its a trim. How he'd look is anybody's guess.

Hell of a game on with Utah/Milwaukee. Trading blows midway through the fourth, and it is LOUD in there.
