With pick 4.8, the Bulls select, Hall of Famer Bob Lanier, 76-77

4th in MVP voting that year and stayed healthy thru the following year when he finished 10th.

Incredible modern inside outside offense, a beast on the defensive glass, and a strong passer and shot blocker.
Great choice. Sad that his best seasons were pre-merger, but he was still awesome. Beautiful lefty touch.

Also, similar to Dikembe, one of the best ambassadors the game has ever had.

Thunder select Shawn Kemp

He had a pretty reliable midrange jumper, so I think he'll make it work with Dwight. There's going to be a lot of dunking on this team for sure.

Ohh dang! I was hoping to do the same thing and pair Kemp with Alonzo!

He only played in one playoff round that year, but he averaged 28-17-2-1-2 on 63% FG%.

On this team, with McGrady/Thompson/Blake, he’s got the help he needs.

I also like the passing bigs next to your wing pairing. Both would be happy to get out of the way as necessary

I had Bob Lanier ranked neck in neck with Alonzo for the best center in the draft. He was the final guy in my top 5 who had yet to be picked. Great value in the 4th round.

Lanier would kill it in today's league with his lethal shooting ability, above average passing, strong post play, can handle the ball and pass off the dribble. He doesn't have the passing of Jokic but he would have a similar scoring arsenal and still you give you very good passing. Just not freakish genius passing. He could play similar defense & rebounding as Jokic as well.

Okay. I don't have a clue what I am doing now. I thought one of Kemp or Lanier would be there. Back to the drawing board.

Love the Kemp pick. Essentially had him on par with Blake because of Blake’s weird point forward season with Detroit - not so much for that season (it wasn’t his best) but because of what it showed his game could be. But Kemp was a much better defender. Generational dunkers, great picks.

Which is why I’m sure Celtics Fan Forever is going to do the honourable thing and pick “I had no idea we were going to have a season” lockout-era Shawn Kemp.

Nuggets will take Eddie Jones.

Nice pick.  Another guy who I feel like is never discussed anymore but had a very solid career.

Brilliant complement to Bernard. Spaces the floor as an excellent shooter who is comfortable not being a top option, can take the hardest assignment at either the shooting guard or small forward position. Takes the load off him on both ends and covers for his weaknesses.

I had Kemp ranked pretty closely to Pau Gasol and Chris Webber as my top PFs enterting the draft. I favoured Pau and Webber as a primary building piece due to their superior passing so I rated them as late 1st to mid 2nd round picks. I had Kemp as a 2nd round pick. His superior defense helped make up for some of the gap on offense. And his scoring efficiency over Webber was substantial.

As I said earlier in the thread, I liked Pau the best of all the PFs. That surprised me. I did not expect that. Bloody good player. Well rounded efficient two way strong passer. Love that package.
