So in my big annoying spreadsheet Blake was one of the guys I had as an early pick because his numbers were gaudy and he fits the draft criteria.

However, that was pulling from active players as per Basketball Reference. Had NBA.com had a more easily exportable list of guys on rosters, I could see the issue.

To my mind, the pick is fine, the ruling is fair, the ambiguity is understandable, and the annoyance is valid… but is anyone really going to see the presence or absence of Blake Griffin as a real needle mover? I suspect not.

I mean, Webber went in the mid 1st round, Gasol went in the 1st, and Amare in the 2nd.

If that’s the precedent for multifaceted offensive power forwards with elite scoring/passing/rebounding/athleticism, I straight up love the value of Blake in the early/mid 4th.

He can do most everything but defend at a high level and he finished 3rd in MVP voting in the year Im selecting.

You’re absolutely correct SAB, however it’s my sworn duty to downplay anyone I don’t draft. It’s a great pick.

Thunder select Shawn Kemp

He had a pretty reliable midrange jumper, so I think he'll make it work with Dwight. There's going to be a lot of dunking on this team for sure.

I wanted to pair Kemp with Carter and have a dunk contest team

Man, he was so fun to watch when he was in Seattle.  Definitely a binky.

AH -- there goes my top target for this round. Kemp was so strong defensively too, a forgotten attribute. He was all over the court and would've been amazing into today's switching environment.

I'm not so sure on the midrange jumper but either way he can beat you so many ways. You need some beef to play against those guys.

Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger

Definitely an underrated defender. In 93-94 he nearly averaged 4 combined blocks and steals!

That leaves me with two guys I'm excited about for this round, one of whom I'm pretty convinced Who is about to take. Time for some nail-biting.

With pick 4.8, the Bulls select, Hall of Famer Bob Lanier, 76-77

4th in MVP voting that year and stayed healthy thru the following year when he finished 10th.

Incredible modern inside outside offense, a beast on the defensive glass, and a strong passer and shot blocker.
