More stat minutiae to watch: Evan Fournier is a killer in hand-off actions. Per the NBA's stats, he scored 1.36 points per possession on 2 shots per game in Orlando, which is 95th percentile in the NBA.

He's going to be great paired with Timelord or TT.  He can get to the rack and those two can clean up any misses.  I don't understand why more people aren't extremely excited about this deal.

I agree. How could anyone not be excited about the addition of a legitimate NBA player to this scrub bench of fringe NBA players.

At the moment Danny has his cake and is eating too. He made a trade but can still “like our guys” since he hasn’t moved any of them.

This was a great move. Considering what little they had to give up, I’d rather have him over Gordon. Gordon’s a very average shooter. C’s have enough of those. Hopefully this means Marcus Smarts shot attempts go down, especially at the end of games.

You are missing the point here....Gordon is not perfect  no player is, but he fills a team need. This team cannot keep rolling out soft Tatum as a 4. Gordon allows Tatum to slide to the 3 spot. Trade for what you need, not to win the trade.

But shooting was arguably a bigger need unless you all want to have Smart taking all those 3 pointers during crunch time. ;D

Exactly, Thank you. Half of those 3’s that smart is attempting should now go to a player who has shown that they can shoot throughout their career. Gordon is another guy that does not shoot well consistently. Have enough of those.

Except in the playoffs where he turns into a 35% shooter from the field who hits on 26% from 3. Even his free throw shooting drops.

I mean context wise, maybe defenses hone on him more. All I'm saying is with the Celtics, he has a lot of pressure taken off of him.

Doesn’t address everything and he’s an expiring and it kinda hurts to use most of the TPE on an expiring that doesn’t help too much.

BUT Fournier is a good scorer who hopefully can accept a reduced role outside that mess of a franchise and thrive. He’s fine on D and has scored 19 ppg on around .6 TS over the last 2 seasons. And shoots around 40% from deep.

Our issue has been wing depth all year and while he doesn’t solve the 3/4 issue, the ability to have just another decent Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing player without giving anyone up is not insignificant. I remember years ago Tommy really liked this kid. Good job Danny.

Amen to that.  The real issue I see with Fournier is how do we resign him, and do we end up doing a massive overpay to do that?  Is he good enough to want to overpay for?  If not, then we basically used the TPE for a 2 month rental.  I mean it is ok, better than loosing the TPE for nothing, but pretty meh if we don't resign him.

Evan Fournier. Another player Marcus Smart will not pass the ball to.

Have his bird rights though so theoretically could create another TPE if the team doesn't keep him.

I guess you could theoretically, but that breaks a larger TPE into two smaller ones that you can't combine for a larger salary correct?  I mean if the goal was to try and replace what we lost with Gordon H, then two nickels aren't going to get us what one dime does right?
I mean I don't hate getting Fournier, it just seems like an acceptance that you couldn't / wouldn't find anyone worth the whole thing.  And the chances that we were really going to cash in with a great player with the TPE were small anyways.  Meh..

Yes, but ther's $11M left in the TPE to make another deal for X  Then you can evaluate Hayward for Fournier + X and decide if it was worth it.

The Magic will receive Jeff Teague and two second-round picks from the Celtics to complete the Evan Fournier trade, league sources tell @JaredWeissNBA and me. Teague has been told he doesn’t have to report to the Magic and will be waived by the Magic, per a league source.

I like the Fournier signing for many reasons, one of which is that it allows the coach to play offense/defense at the end of close games.  He can substitute Smart for Kemba on defense, and Kemba for Smart on offense, while having Fournier, a guard with some size, on the court at the end of a game.
