It’s almost like most of you guys haven’t been watching NBA basketball for the past 5 years or so.  NO ONE gives a crap about “bigs” or spending big $ of PF/C.  Who cares if Embid scores 50 if we are chucking up 3s every time down and STILL WIN.  I don’t understand all the whining over big men here....

Yeah we dont need bigs! NBA is a small man's game.
name a championship squad past decade that had a dominant big. Duncan wasn't finals MVP. Dirk was a shooter

Siakam, ibaka and gasol.

Didnt have to look to far back

I wouldn't classify Siakam as a big. I will give you Ibaka and Gasol, though dominant might be stretching it over the entire series.

CelticsStrong: We need a center that can score inside and rebound.

We get a guy who can score inside and rebound.

CelticsStrong: That guy sucks!

Yeah, pretty much! I think there are some people here who only like defensive-minded centers. Of course you need good team defense, but it's gonna be really nice to have a guy (for a change) who loves cleaning up on the offensive glass and can get the ball in the post and score consistently.

If he gives the same defensive effort that he did for Portland in the playoffs, then this is a bargain.

He’ll never be a great defender, but we need him to at least handle his business.  The scoring and rebounding aren’t a concern.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Still could do a trade for a big like sabonis fir either brown or filler and a few picks. Semi tabs and 2 later firsts works for me, or instead the over valued Memphis puck with the filler.

none of those 3 we can afford. Kanter is close to gasol level.

I know we cannot afford them. I was posting to go against a post asking what teams had good bigmen in the past decade that won championships.

Kanter is not close to gasols level.

Not offensively and not even in sight if him defensively.

But yeah, he might be the best player as a bigman we could afford.

This I agree with. Kanter played pretty great ball for Portland in the playoffs. His defense, though not overall great, was at least, good and his effort was great. He also had some very good games. He had games of:

20 points/18 rebounds
19 points/5 rebounds
8 points/10 rebounds
13 points/13 rebounds
26 points/7 rebounds
15 points/9 rebounds
18 points/15 rebounds
6 points/14 rebounds
12 points/13 rebounds
10 points/16 rebounds

That is tremendous playoff production and came, for the most part, versus Steven Adams, Nikola Jokic and one game versus Kevin Looney.

Any research that identifies Juwan Howard and Tiego Splitter as dominant bigs makes me chuckle.

He actually eliminated Duncan and Dirk as bigs. Go figure.

Haven't read through all 13 pages, but I like this signing for the money.  Rebounding has been a nagging issue and I think this helps.  I bet this ends up being an Evan Turner type signing where he comes in, plays a little better than we expected with a larger role, then takes a nice pay check elsewhere in a couple of years.

I thought the list was supposed to be “dominant bigs” on the prior championship teams and not every dude 6’8” and above...

Dominant big is moving the post....no one is asking for a dominant big....just baskeball size players. Is that too much to ask?

Theis and Williams for defense.  Kanter for offense and rebounds .  At only 5m hard to get much more for your money.
