Kanter is pretty [dang] good offensively. Have to improve on defense but the dude rebounds at a high rate.

He is a gifted offensive player. In his 2018/19 highlights he is seen taking Jokic, Adams and other top flight Centers to school offensively.

Sure he has issues defensively. But he at least brings a level of feisty to bang with the best centers in the league.

We still lack:

1. A defensive minded big (Time Lord is constantly in the wrong spots and only appears to be strong defensively at this stage because of his 9 ft wingspan - exaggerating).

2. A big that can shoot the occasional 3. Right now, it appears Theis will be that guy.

Maybe we witness Noel reneg on his vet min with OKC and come home? That would be awesome but IMO he will be less inclined to do so knowing he is sharing minutes now with Kanter and RWIII.

He's a career 78% free throw shooter.

If Baynes and Brooke Lopez can develop it, why can't he?  Never too late. Just needs to learn how to connect his lower body better into his jump shot like Curry.

Yeah it’s a mystery why he hasnt developed a 3 pt shot in the modern nba

My opinion of Kanter is that he and Yabu can be packaged together for a player making up to $12,884,240 mid-season

^ This.
There's a reason he's 5 mil/yr and no other team wants him, guys. He's bad.

His last team wanted him; he really stepped up for them when they lost Nurkic.  Made it to the Conference Finals as their starting center.

I will say this, traditionalists like my dad will really like the fact that Kanter is a big man with traditional center size who grabs rebounds and takes almost all of his shots inside five feet.

I'm genuinely not sure how the Celts are going to have a league average defense this year, though.
I mean they managed it in 2015-2016 somehow with Sullinger/Jerebko/Johnson/Crowder playing in the front court a lot.

But yeah I'm worried too.

I fully expect that Stevens will have Kanter launching 3 point shots by 3 months into the season.

Amir Johnson was a key piece for that team, somehow.

Kelly Olynyk was also an underrated defender.

I think the Celts are gonna need Grant Williams to be ready to play a significant role right away.  They'll also need Timelord to give them a solid 10-15 minutes a night.

Are we re-signing Theis?  That's a big ? now.

Edit: Nevermind, they gave him a QO so at worst he'll be back for one year.

Are you just completely making this up? Bulls, Lakers, Clippers and others were all listed as interested in him and he was signed on second day of free agency. It is cool if you don't like him, but please don't just make up stuff that is really not cool.

Brother, have you seen the remaining free agent centers? Here, I'll help: https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/current_free_agents

He's basically the last one standing in musical chairs. "Interest" means absolutely nothing. That's just a bullEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. word that journalists use to peddle their "sauces." If they had interest, he'd be signed. His highlight reel that someone posted in here is posting up Zaza Pachulia and catching passes in the paint for dunks. "Elite." He's 6 fouls and a trade asset.

I like Kanter as a stopgap center BUT we still need another legit Big Man (Center - not quasi pf) in case of injury.

If Kanter goes down for any extended period of time, Theis will NOT suffice.

Kanter is a very productive big man.  He will help you win regular season games.

In the playoffs, he can still work for you in certain matchups.  The Blazers needed him against the Nuggets and he did good work.

Still, there's only so much value he can provide you.  For $5 million and 20-24 minutes a night, he's solid.

If the Celts had championship aspirations this year, relying on Kanter to play significant minutes would be a problem.

As it stands though, it'd be an amazing turnaround if the Celts were as good as the Blazers next year.

Don't see how he could possibly improve on D. The dude is slower than a herd of snails traveling through peanut butter. :P Possibly the worst defensive big man in the NBA.

He's a great rebounder though and a good scorer around the basket.

CelticsStrong: We need a center that can score inside and rebound.

We get a guy who can score inside and rebound.

CelticsStrong: That guy sucks!
