He's basically a street light on the perimeter.  If he does end up switching onto a guard he's not even quick enough to change his opponents driving angle a little bit.  And he can't switch in the pick and roll to save his life.  He's probably one of if not THE worst perimeter defender in the league.

On the block he's actually not that bad in terms of defending against a post player.  But he's not a great help defender either - he averages around .6 blocks per 36.  Definitely not a rim protector.

So from what I understand, Kanter has defensive issues.  Can anyone elaborate on that issue?  What is Kanter not so good at?

Lateral agility.
So man on man and pick and role on guards then?  What about strength.  Can he at least hold up against bigger guys?

wow!!

I wanted Kanter last season

what a deal

Kanter was huge vs OKC and Dever in the playoffs

not as good vs GSW but .....for 5 million, excellent signing

we have our starting center now

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Scoring won't be a problem and a better rebounder than Al - there's that....

Yeah, I mean there are reasons to be optimistic. He averaged the same amount of points as Al last year, as well as 3 additional rpg in 5 fewer mpg. The dude can't really stretch the floor (but he is trying) and he needs to work on setting up his teammates, but for the price, you can't really complain. Obviously defense needs work, as well.

With Timelord already on the roster, I can see why we didn't necessarily go for a Noel/WCS type of Center, but I don't really want Kanter taking scoring opportunities from our other players. I always remember him as a Celtic killer on the offensive boards, so if he can clean up the misses and get his points that way, then GREAT!

Yes, his D is not great, BUT when was the last time we had a Center as good as Kanter on O?
Last year.
nope.
Passing and shooting are a bit part of offense. But okay. He certainly shot more often than Horford per minute.

Honestly I would.

It's better than nothing...I guess

Would you rather start Theis? ;)

Screening too - though honestly I don't know much about Kanter in that regard.  Is he at least decent?

Kanter will start and be especial useful against Jokic, Embiid, Adams of the world.  Or at least slow them down

But if the Celts face AD,  Timelord likely gets more reps

Against Draymond Green and other small 5s , then Grant will get the call

CBS will mix and match

I dunno about the regular season, but he set some hilariously illegal but effective playoff screens when I watched Portland play. He's a big guy and didn't seem to shy from trying to catch a body.

Hilariously illegal screens that don't get called are extremely my jam.  Good. Guess I was overapplying the lousy D.

They've probably got their team.  Time Lord and Yabu both get chances to make the rotation.  Wouldn't mind seeing them add a 3 pt shooter or maybe try to bring back Larkin.

I mean he certainly is a good offensive player, just very different than Horford. Provides some post scoring though he's not great at it.

What the C's will appreciate the most on O will probably be put backs and simple kick out threes off his offensive boards and rim run buckets.
