Not a fan of this. The dude is a bad defender. He'll be unplayable against teams like Philly and Milwaukee. Would have rather had pretty much any other big man that was talked about on this forum (like Looney, Noel, Dedmon, Cauley-Stein, ect.).

Dedmond signed for big money already - 13m/year. Looney, Noel, C-S are probably holding out for 10+ per year. We needed to get somebody competent at 5 mil before the cupboard became bare.

I don't think any of those guys was a real option for the little $$ the Celts can offer.

The Celtics need to wait a year to have the full MLE to offer.
Fine, but my other point still stands. We're gonna be awful defensively if he's our starting center.

Didn't he lead the league in rebounding?
only in offensive rebounding percentage. but he is a very good rebounder by every stat. you can see more here:

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

BTW, I think he may skip games in Toronto, because of his issues with Erdogan (which i respect him for).

imo non issue

Why would Canada help Erdogan?

Kanter travelled to Toronto the seasons prior to last

wow!!

I wanted Kanter last season

what a deal

Kanter was huge vs OKC and Dever in the playoffs

not as good vs GSW but .....for 5 million, excellent signing

we have our starting center now

Agreed. He played decent defense against Denver, got a lot of credit for that. Played a lot of minutes in that series as I recall.

I think our biggest challenge is with transition defense. Given his propensity to attack the offensive boards, we may be left naked defending against fast breaks. But I hope Brad doesn't discourage that aspect of his game.

My opinion of Kanter is that he and Yabu can be packaged together for a player making up to $12,884,240 mid-season

^ This.
There's a reason he's 5 mil/yr and no other team wants him, guys. He's bad.

They certainly at least have some talent to work with in the front court, not as good as last year but the best Celts could likely do. This is not fantasy league, there is potential someone can be coached up or in a better system for them since the Celtics coaching staff clearly knows what they are facing in going against Giannis, Horford, Embiid, Gasol, etc. They wouldn't have drafted Robt. Williams, Fall, Grant Williams, and signed Kanter unless there was some (varying degree of) potential that they can be coached up to not just be a turnstile when they are on the court. This is what they pay the coaching staff for, let's see if anyone can play better or schemes can mask weaknesses and accent strengths.

Are you just completely making this up? Bulls, Lakers, Clippers and others were all listed as interested in him and he was signed on second day of free agency. It is cool if you don't like him, but please don't just make up stuff that is really not cool.

Lol - What are you talking about? Kanter isn't bad. He signed here because we literally have no bigs on our roster even close to starting quality. He is looking to come in, secure a starting role pretty easily, and hopefully cash in next offseason. It also helps that we are actually a good team. I am sure he enjoyed his playoff run this year. Luckily for us, we'll have the full MLE to use if he proves deserving of a raise.

The ability to combine his salary with guys like Yabu is a nice option, but we could have signed anybody for that role.

He's a career 78% free throw shooter.

If Baynes and Brooke Lopez can develop it, why can't he?  Never too late. Just needs to learn how to connect his lower body better into his jump shot like Curry.

13 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes a game?

22 PER.

Kanter is not bad.
