My opinion of Kanter is that he and Yabu can be packaged together for a player making up to $12,884,240 mid-season

^ This.
There's a reason he's 5 mil/yr and no other team wants him, guys. He's bad.

Are you just completely making this up? Bulls, Lakers, Clippers and others were all listed as interested in him and he was signed on second day of free agency. It is cool if you don't like him, but please don't just make up stuff that is really not cool.

Brother, have you seen the remaining free agent centers? Here, I'll help: https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/current_free_agents

He's basically the last one standing in musical chairs. "Interest" means absolutely nothing. That's just a bull**** word that journalists use to peddle their "sauces." If they had interest, he'd be signed. His highlight reel that someone posted in here is posting up Zaza Pachulia and catching passes in the paint for dunks. "Elite." He's 6 fouls and a trade asset.

Like I said. It is fine if you don't like him and think he sucks. Other teams were interested in him, it was reported that Portland even made him an offer but just wanted a super quick decision. You made up that no other team wanted him, it is false, and that is not cool. There is plenty of ways to say you think he sucks without doing that (and some very valid criticisms of his game i would add).

So would Kanter be unable to play road games @Toronto still?

Lol that could be a serious issue IF we play the Raptors in a future playoff series

G - Kemba
F - Jaylen
F - Tatum
F - Hayward
C - Kanter

I think he's gonna love it here in Boston and Boston will love him.  Very gritty hard nosed player

I don't see any downside to this signing. He needed a player that was starter worthy that would sign for $4.8 million. The Celtics got one.

Is he perfect? Hell no!!! But he is a serviceable big man that can give the team 24 quality big man minutes. He will play much better offensively than defensively but is an elite rebounder. He will be a turnstyle when switched onto quicker perimeter players but will provide the Celtics something they haven't had in a long, long time...some of the best offensive rebounding in the league.

The Celtics aren't overpaying a mediocre level player, they are underpaying a slightly better than mediocre level player. They won't be massively overpaying on the last year or two of a four year deal, they have the guy for probably just one year. His contract makes him a great trade asset.

And what are the other options at $4.7 million? No one associated with last year's team is someone who should be getting more than ten minutes a game...if that. Yabusele isn't an NBA player. If Theis comes back and plays like last year, he is a third string center at best. RWilliams probably will be spending more time in Portland, ME than Boston, MA.

I think the Celtics still add a vet min center and PF. Ainge isn't done yet.

My impression from reading sports boards is that if you're not a superstar, you suck.

Relax, we survived Tyler Zeller, Vitor Faverani, Fab Melo, Semih Erden... I think we can survive Kanter

How many people were calling those people "elite?" I've seen it used in reference to Kanter 6 times already, and I've been skimming.
I think people are talking about his rebounding and post game on offense as elite, not his all around abilities. I feel like he is a decent player on a good value contract. Good offense, great rebounding, bad defense and bad shooting. 2 good things and 2 bad things. It's not like we have a max contract to offer a center, so I'm happy with the signing. As we say here in Brazil: "If the horse is a gift, you don't check its teeth"...

Yikes... Julius Randle... Who many people on this blog believe is terrible scored 45 on this guy... He's probably the worst defensive player getting meaningful minutes in the NBA.
He took 34 shots went 3-11 from the line and had 7 turnovers on that 45 points.

He somehow had a 102 offensive rating while scoring 45. (also 45 Usage that game)

Oh and his team lost by 12  8)

Given the money, years, & type of player the Celtics are getting here with Kanter, I have very little qualms with it.

It's not a horrible signing by any means and does go towards filling a glaring need they're currently facing.

He's attempted 143 three pointers in 583 games so we won't be screaming at him to "don't take that shot!"

I think he'll be fine. He's a thumper and nobody'll want to drive on him.

He averages about 23 mpg and he is 78% from the line for his career.

Finally got some size and at $5M a year? What else were we gonna get? Tyler Zeller?

They'll figure out how to use him. This is good.

Cool.....better than Baynes by a mile.....Dude ALWAYs seemed to tear up the Celtics inside defenders , least the game I was watching.  Never seemed to shy away from offensive rebounds and he LOOKS to score ..yippee !     We need scoring and rebounding in the paint....oh so badly

I d rather have Boogie Cousins and go,over cap and NOT loose so much ground.

Honest truth is we still need another BIG center dude.  Bigs get hurt in like bunches , can t have enough IMO

Here is the biggest thing with Kanter that people here are ignoring: he will be the guy that bangs with Embiid in the post, and that is why we signed him.

Yes, he is horrendous perimeter defender, but he is strong and tough and can absolutely deal with Embiid without getting pushed around. So for those saying he is "unplayable" against Philly, you're nuts; he will absolutely get big minutes against the 76ers to deal Embiid.

It would be nice if we can sign another big who can defend the perimeter, but I am perfectly fine with this signing and it's a one-year deal. I don't know how you can possibly complain about it.

I would have preferred Robin Lopez, but he wanted to play with his brother. It is what it is.

The Kings signed Holmes for the exact same price we signed Kanter.

Quote from: Shams Charania
Free agent center/forward Richaun Holmes has agreed to a two-year, $10M deal with the Sacramento Kings, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

Would you guys rather have Kanter at 10 million for 2 years or Holmes?

Give me Kanter. He is a starting caliber center, even with the bad defense. Holmes is a 6'9" backup center.

Edit: Holmes started 24 games his whole career and played 3 playoff games (0 starts). Kanter was just starting in the WCF and played 2 good series against Jokic and Adams. Give me Kanter all day over Holmes
