With the money we had it's amazing that someone even on the level of Kanter signed it.  He's started and that is bench money.  With that exception the C's were looking at players that probably have no business being on the floor for more then 5-10 minutes.  Yes Kanter is a terrible defender and please keep the maybe he can get better here comments to a minimum.  He's shown over her career that he has zero interest in playing D.  However he's a terrific rebounder and scorer at the 5 spot.  He's a double double guy in 25 minutes who doesn't do anything else so please go in to this season knowing he's gonna get his ass handed to him against other 5's.  He will give the C's 20 minutes a game allowing Rob to develop and if Rob develop's at all Kanter will go back to mop up duty.  A lot of if's but for 4.8 million there's not much the C's could have gotten.  Next year they will upgrade the 5 spot and hopefully draft someone to develop and get a guy with the full exception next year.

I would like to see them get that french big for the minimum like they did with Theis.  Could be worth a shot.

I think he is fine, about the best left on the market, and a steal for 5m per.  I would love a 4/5 at the BAE or vet min and we call it quits for the front court.  Maybe a vet min at the PG spot.  Would like to give BU minutes to a few of these young guards to see if they can cut it.  Yabs and semi can both go IMHO.

We don't get the BAE because we used cap space. We'll have to settle for who we can get with the minimum
I'm bitter.

Relax, we survived Tyler Zeller, Vitor Faverani, Fab Melo, Semih Erden... I think we can survive Kanter

How many people were calling those people "elite?" I've seen it used in reference to Kanter 6 times already, and I've been skimming.

Should we go get Joel embid maybe?  What about sending time lord back to get us mid 90's Olajuwon?  Dude he's the best available option and not as terrible as people are saying.  Geez we can't get everything we want we're not the Boston Lebron James's  ::)

Free agent center/forward Richaun Holmes has agreed to a two-year, $10M deal with the Sacramento Kings, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

Would you guys rather have Kanter at 10 million for 2 years or Holmes at the same price?
Give me Kanter. He is a starting caliber center, even with the bad defense. Holmes is a 6'9" backup center.

Edit: Holmes started 24 games his whole career and played 3 playoff games (0 starts). Kanter was just starting in the WCF and played 2 good series against Jokic and Adams. Give me Kanter all day over Holmes
We already had 4 legit offensive options in our starting lineup in Kemba, Brown, Hayward and Tatum. Last thing we needed was another offensive option. Personally speaking, I'd prefer a defensive minded center like Holmes. Not saying he's a better player, just that I'd like the fit more.

Its not the direction I would have gone. With our perimeter guys we really needed a defensive minded center who would be low usage tonite our starters together. Not a terrible defense low post guy. However given the depth we are losing in Rozier, Morris we could use some second unit scoring which he provides. And the rebounding is good if we are gonna go small at the 4. And at least he can bang with a big center.

Side note, for anyone who thinks hes better offensively than Al. No. The spacing and passing Al provided does pair more for your offense than a guy who gets offensive rebounds and takes up post space. Fir what Baynes was giving you on defense I would flat out rather have him. But its 2 years 10 mil so meh...

I understand you, but people are affraid of potential matchups against Embiid, Horford, Gasol in the East. Holmes wouldn't be able to do anything against those guys too. The "defensive centers" left on the market are not that great defensive centers, otherwise they would be signed already. So, if we can't get the good defensive centers, let's get a good offensive center that at least can make these guys work on defense. If Kanter and Holmes will be eaten alive by Embiid on defense, I rather have the one who could make him sweat on the post playing defense and make him work for those defensive boards. People seem to underrate the cardio aspect of Embiid and Gasol for example. If you have a guy (Kanter) that is constantly after the offensive board and looking to bang on the post, it can make you (Embiid) tired when you have to make a play and score on the other side of the court.

In a world of unlimited resources we would be able to replace Al with a comparable player. Unfortunately we don’t have unlimited resources. I think Kanter is a decent get for the money we had. Plus he can be flipped or packaged later on. End of day we’re better than before we signed him, even if it’s not as good as we want to be.

Kanter is a 25MPG player meaning Williams probably plays significantly more than the 8MPG in 32 games he played last year.

TP this is a great point.  The only defensive Center that was rumored to be available was Steven Adams and Derrick Favors.  Both out of the C's price range.  This all comes down to what resources did Boston have left to sign someone.  Well it was 4.8 million which is pennies in the NBA.  If you can't get a player that is going to eat up the opponents center on D well work him over on offense.  IF Embiid or other centers don't want to play D then the C's score a lot of points.  If they do play D it will tire them out on O.  Good thinking.

He's basically a street light on the perimeter.  If he does end up switching onto a guard he's not even quick enough to change his opponents driving angle a little bit.  And he can't switch in the pick and roll to save his life.  He's probably one of if not THE worst perimeter defender in the league.

On the block he's actually not that bad in terms of defending against a post player.  But he's not a great help defender either - he averages around .6 blocks per 36.  Definitely not a rim protector.

So from what I understand, Kanter has defensive issues.  Can anyone elaborate on that issue?  What is Kanter not so good at?

Lateral agility.
So man on man and pick and role on guards then?  What about strength.  Can he at least hold up against bigger guys?
A street light?  I was hoping for AT LEAST a speed bump.

Not my favorite (preferred Looney or Noel), but he can certainly be productive. Hate that the 2nd year is a player option. We will need all the salaries we can muster together for future trades.

Same here. I wanted Looney or Noel, but it is what it is.

Can we accept Nerlens Noel, for instance, in a separate sign and trade or are we currently prevented from doing so?
