I do love the addition. He's an ELITE rebounder and isn't afraid of grabbing them. Also capable of scoring.

With that said, there's no way he can be our "answer" in the frontcourt. Embiid, Horford, Giannis, etc. will cook him on the defensive end.

Still hoping we can convince someone like Nerlens Noel to come. Could use his rim protection/defense. Bring back Theis too for depth.

Some toughness on the team now.  He is big and strong and plays hard.  He can rebound too.  Could Williams develop enough to back Kanter up. I think they signed Theis but he is more of a forward.

CelticsStrong: We need a center that can score inside and rebound.

We get a guy who can score inside and rebound.

CelticsStrong: That guy sucks!

I was thinking the exact same thing reading this thread. Some guys were saying they would like any legit big man. We got one incredible cheap (he made 18 mil last season I think) and people are like this

In eight NBA seasons, the 27-year-old Kanter holds career averages of 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds while shooting 54.1% from the field. But he also struggles defensively, and ranked 71st of 72 qualified centers in the league in defensive plus-minus rating this past season.

I got curious to know who has the 72nd. Jahlil Okafor?

I'll admit that Enes Kanter is probably near the top of this list (~5th), but I'd like to be the one that manages expectations. He's horrible. For a fan base that thought that Terry Rozier sucks, you're going to crucify this guy.

Yikes... Julius Randle... Who many people on this blog believe is terrible scored 45 on this guy... He's probably the worst defensive player getting meaningful minutes in the NBA.

His last deal was a huge overpay, but at 5 mil he is at market price imo.
He is poor defensively, but he has some elite skills.

Relax, we survived Tyler Zeller, Vitor Faverani, Fab Melo, Semih Erden... I think we can survive Kanter

How many people were calling those people "elite?" I've seen it used in reference to Kanter 6 times already, and I've been skimming.

like to see us pick up J. Noah. If he can continue to produce like he did in Memphis he’d be an ideal second string center.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think I am warming up to the idea of a Kanter/Theis/Williams Center rotation. All three bring their own set of skills to the table. Brad will have the ability to mix and match as he pleases.

I can understand bringing in another big, but I am not sure where the playing time will come from. We have so many quality wings that can easily play some PF. Plus, everybody and their mother is already gushing about Grant Williams.

The Theis situation can't be understated either. We aren't getting anywhere close to the luxury tax this year, meaning we will be able to start fresh next year when Jaylen signs his extension. Adding a ~$5M salary for Theis to Kanter's and Yabu's salaries really opens up a world of possibilities in trades.

I agree about the overpay, but 5 mil is not his market price. Maxi Kleber just signed for more than that with Dallas. Dedmon signed for twice more than that. I don't think he is worse than those guys for example.
