I respect that from a player that he doesn't play for money. He could've stayed in Dallas, but he didn't like it there and now he's a valuable back-up player for OKC. He turned down a lot of money (I think in the end he'll have left about 50 million on the table). Good for him.
He turned it down because he believed he was going to get a BIGGER offer on the open market. Not because he didn't want to play in Dallas.
Yeah, Nerlens didn't make some noble stand and sacrificed $50 million so he could play where he wanted. Nerlens made a stupid decision because he was listening to a bunch of idiots he surrounded himself with since high school.

Jackie Mac, asked about rumors Kyrie is leaving, laughs and says this is Rich Paul’s doing. Kinda what I thought, but when she says there’s nothing to it, that goes a long way with me.

TP. Jackie Mac is much more plugged into the C’s than any of the other reporters, and she’s confirming the exact narrative that we’ve all been saying for the last 36 hours.

If you are telling me there's a chance that Kyrie leaves, then sure I'll buy that. He is a free agent, so by definition there is some chance he could leave. I just don't think its a very high chance. It would take some combination of terrible circumstance like we strike out on Davis + Hayward keeps looking terrible all year + we disappoint in the playoffs + glamour market team gets Durant + that team also has max space + injuries cause us not to offer full max + literal fist fights with teammates, ect. He's in a great situation, he is coming back.

I mean, if you look at (the Pelicans’) statement, they’re still on the league about looking into tampering charges and so there’s bad blood. I was talking with somebody earlier and they brought up Gregg Popovich, how he was not going to trade Kawhi to the Lakers, and I said ‘this is different. It’s a little bit deeper even than that.’

“So from that mindset right now I do not see a way (that in the next 10 days) the Pelicans do a deal that will send AD over to the Lakers. I just don’t see that happening. And I don’t know if the league is going to let that happen right now.”

“Obviously the league is investigating right now, those charges. Tampering charges. I know they reached out to Rich Paul yesterday to interview him.

“And it’s funny, Colin, because players have always for years talked about playing with other guys. It’s never been an issue before. But now, all of a sudden, it’s become an issue. Now players aren’t allowed to do that. Usually it’s just coaches and management. But now it’s an issue when it involves LeBron and potentially another superstar going over there... So for a lot of those reasons alone, Colin, I just don’t see that deal getting done right now.”

I love the white knight stuff at the end, but more importantly, it sounds like Rich Paul’s mouthpiece is discouraged about a Lakers deal happening right now.

Thanks. I hadn't viewed it in that context, but it's pretty apparent that the Paul/James camp is desperate to make this Davis deal happen. I wonder how desperate Magic is.

The ultimate offer that the Lakers can do is Ball, Hart, Ingram, Kuzma, Zubac + '19 first + '21 first + '23 first + '25 first, I think.

I’ll never look at Haynes the same again. He’s always come off as a know it all but being a Klutch lackey I never would have suspected.

What a moron. This guy actually sounds butthurt that AD may not go to LAL anymore to join with Lebron because of the public reaction. Like I said folks, this guy is a Rich Paul puppet, period. He's credible but not at an "elite level" (if that's a thing). Remember, he announced Hayward to Boston BEFORE Hayward even made his decision (that's not being a "fortune-teller", that's just guessing and looking to break something real early). Imagine if Hayward had decided another team instead that day. Then yikes.

I think Chris Haynes had the Gordon story correct, FWIW. But Gordon wanted to inform Utah personally first so it was walked back. And I do think Mark Bartelstein (Gordon's agent) was the source.

Oh maybe I'm wrong then. I remember Hayward appeared on some segment in ESPN w/Woj and I thought he said that when he heard the rumors that he was going to Boston, even he was stunned because he hadn't officially picked a team yet. Then he did and in a few hours typed up something on the Players Tribune (a very long time after Haynes' tweet). That was my recollection. Could be wrong. Woj himself that day along with Aldridge had also denied Hayward decided a team that afternoon.

Gordon did sit down with Woj and say that, but again, I believe he was trying to save face. Someone had leaked earlier in the day (well before Haynes even reported) that Gordon's Players Tribune piece was called "Thank You, Utah"... Gordon, IMO, tried to let Utah down easy by claiming that the decision was close and blah blah, but I think he had his mind made about Boston for awhile.

Jackie Mac, asked about rumors Kyrie is leaving, laughs and says this is Rich Paul’s doing. Kinda what I thought, but when she says there’s nothing to it, that goes a long way with me.

She didn't exactly say there was nothing to it.  In fact, she said maybe he is a little unsure.

Wow.

Honest question, are you a Celtics fan? I ask because only a non-Celtics fan could spin what Mac said like you just did.

More of a non-Kyrie fan I’d say.

But yeah, she laughed it off, said she hadn’t heard anything of the kind, and suggested the rumor came from Rich Paul. She also indicated that he’d love to play with Anthony Davis.
