Favors will make $11.75M this year, expiring contract. I don't know if adding him to a S&T with Hayward and Crowder is possible capwise.

If the only piece we're sending out is Crowder, it's not. I'm not positive, but it might work if we send out Bradley as well. I wouldn't call that an appealing option, though.

I'm pretty sure I ran the numbers the other day and it works out pretty well. Favors will make $12M this year, and AB and Jae combine to make just over $15.6M, giving us $3.6M in extra cap room to sign Hayward.

Favors is pretty underrated around here because of a down year last year, but he's still a very good player that helps with several of our weaknesses on the board and with interior toughness/defense. I'd do that deal, especially if you think you'd be losing AB anyways (I think Favors costs less than AB next year). I like the look of that lineup:

PG: IT, Rozier
SG: Brown, Smart
SF: Hayward, Tatum
PF: Favors, ?
C: Horford, Zizic

I think you're right in terms of the money, so it should be a possibility. I was a HUGE Favors guy before the injuries caught up to him, but this seems like a big risk. If it doesn't work out, you lost a year of Bradley, his Bird rights, 3 years of Crowder, and his Bird rights for a broken Favors. If it does work out, you have to pay Favors a massive amount next offseason.

Yeah, that's why in a lot of ways I'd rather make that same sort of deal for someone like Faried, who has two full years left on his deal and presumably won't cost near as much to resign after his contract is up. I like his fit here with Boston nearly as much as Favors, even if he isn't the overall player that Favors is.

That being said, it's one thing to trade AB and Crowder for Favors straight up; it's a complete overpay to trade AB and Crowder for Faried, which is the salary it'd take to make the cap space work (if it even does for Faried with his extra $900k he makes over Favors).

All of this further explains why the current reports make no sense whatsoever. Rozier + Jackson is the only S&T that makes sense, unless the Jazz are sending major assets back our way (Hood or picks).
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

I'm not the only one who thinks these reports make no sense:

Quote
One rival league source plenty skeptical about Crowder sign and trade to Jazz potential: "That's not gonna actually happen. Stay woke."

Yep. Sounds like a Celtics "leak" to get some leverage back in trade talks... not surprised if other front offices aren't buying it.

How did we go from "possible s&t for Hayward" to "we're getting Favors too"?

Are people COMPLETELY crazy around here?  It's not some done deal that another team will take crowder and return something without salary.  That trade simply may not be out there.  And if it isn't, then we're stuck.

Besides, the proposed trade is NOT giving them something for nothing.  We'd be getting the cap relief needed to sign Hayward to the contract we agreed to.  That's most definitely not nothing.  And if losing crowder is the cost of getting Hayward, so be it.

Wrong. If you care to learn why, several people have explained this over and over and over again.

If we lose Crowder it's gonna be hard to match contracts if there's a potential trade for a star during the season.

Though it does free up some extra dough to resign Bradley and/or Smart next year. That $7M means a lot once we get deep into the luxury tax.

If you think crowder has 0 value around the league then you are the crazy one. Started for 53 win team shot 40% from deep. 3/21 contract. He's got some value. Maybe not a ton of value but you could at least get a pick or 2.

People got their panties in a bunch because we may not get a 2024 first round pick that's top 29 protected and then becomes 7 ninth round picks because #assets

Obviously I'd love this but I feel like we don't have enough perimeter minutes for thomas Bradley Smart brown Hayward Tatum crowder.

A Detroit philosophy small ball 10 man rotation ?

Indulge me.  What we can do that is completely within our control that will give us the cap space needed to sigh Hayward to the max?  I give you that a trade does not have to include crowder, but we're not getting there on our own, without another team facilitating.

if other teams aren't open to taking Crowder, yes they are
