Would be nice if hayward would just shave a couple million off his salary, Durant just took $6M less to stay with the Warriors.

Supposedly he wants to win a title. A little discount wouldn't hurt the cause.
Hayward already shaved $44 million to switch teams. He did his favor

He only wants a 3-year deal allegedly, so the extra year by Utah is irrelevant. He'll be getting a far bigger payday when he becomes a free agent after he hits the 10-year veteran mark and can earn a bigger percentage of the cap.

So while he is losing some money, it isn't an astronomical amount.

Ad he's more marketable here anyways, he'll make that money back here in endorsements easily enough.

I trust Ainge enough to have confidence that this is not the full story, but if this is the full story, it would represent a failure of monumental proportions.

He's already taking a paycut to come here. Asking him to take even more of a pay cut isn't realistic

Why not? KD just did it. Tom Brady does it.

There's a huge difference between taking a pay cut for your team after winning a championship and taking a paycut to join a different team that is hoping for a Finals appearance
plus, KD and Brady are making immense amount of money off the court. They can afford these little paycut

why? What if no other team wants to take Crowder without salary in return?

I forgot the Heat, they took pay cuts too.

In that Players' Tribune post he waxed poetic about Boston's winning culture and how badly he wants to win a championship.

If he really likes this team so much, you'd think he'd want to play alongside AB/Crowder etc, as they were big reasons for our success last year.

We're not talking about some epic discounts here, we're talking about like $2M.

why? What if no other team wants to take Crowder without salary in return?

1. We could take about $3M back and still be able to sign Hayward.
2. Crowder is valuable. There are teams willing to take him.
3. Trading Crowder is not the only option, so if people really are intent on fleecing Ainge, he can dump (far less valuable) Smart for nothing to a team like OKC, who would gladly absorb him into a TPE they have.

The closer Boston is to a championship, the more money Hayward will make off the court.

It would be ironic if Crowder ended up in Utah, swapping paces with Hayward.

Losing his contract would be a blow, though as a player i think he is less essential than AB or Smart.

Favors will make $11.75M this year, expiring contract. I don't know if adding him to a S&T with Hayward and Crowder is possible capwise.

Crowder's hissy fit last year didn't help either.

If the FO thinks he's gonna be a problem they'll move him.

Not to mention we can trade him for cap relief and a future pick. I find it hard to believe that there is no team out there willing to give us a future pick for Crowder.
