How did we go from "possible s&t for Hayward" to "we're getting Favors too"?
This board, man... this board.
People are speculating.
Speculating... delusional...
All the same 'round these parts.
I'd say it's more delusional to think we're just going to give up Crowder in a sign and trade with no real return when he has one of the best contracts in the league and has had many admirers and suitors in trade talks for several years now. That makes zero sense whatsoever.
The only way involving Crowder in a sign and trade like this would make sense is if we were trading for some other assets, too. Further, given the fact that A) we need a starting 4, B) Favors is a starting 4, and C) he was recently on the trade block, its completely rational and logical to posit the possibility of him being included in the deal for something like AB and Crowder, which is still probably an overpay on our part.
Honestly, depending upon your view of Favors, it would work very, very well for both sides, and something like that surely makes more sense than us just giving up Crowder for nothing but cap space.
You're presenting it as if there's only 2 possible outcomes. 1) Give away Jae for free or 2) Utah gives up an additional good player in a deal they're already losing
Most likely scenario is Utah sends a protected pick. Even if Utah had Favors on the trade block at some point he's an asset, they shouldn't just give him away.
Naw, the most likely scenario is this is just a smokescreen for other teams to up their offers.
But you're overvaluing Favors here. Most would say that AB and Jae for Favors is an overpay on our part, especially given his expiring contract. There's already been a lot of noise of them trading him anyways, because he's not really a good fit with Gobert, which makes it unlikely that they'll invest in him next summer, especially with Hayward leaving. What better package for Favors could they realistically get?
I'm overvaluing Favors because I said he's a good player?
K.
Allegedly, we were shopping Jae for a pick and a young player at the draft and we didn't get an offer at our asking price. Logically, that means we're overpricing him.
As far as Favors, he's 25 and is solid and on an expiring deal. If he's not in the future plans, why not flip him to a team looking to move a longer term deal and get an asset out of it ala the Nets with Mozgov.
They're a smartly run franchise, they're not going to give us assets they could use elsewhere + hand us Hayward for Crowder.
