How did we go from "possible s&t for Hayward" to "we're getting Favors too"?

This board, man... this board.

People are speculating.

Speculating... delusional...

All the same 'round these parts.

Whatever, the Celtics aren't giving Jae Crowder for just Hayward.

Never said they are/ they should.

But thinking they'll agree to give up a starting caliber big man in a sign and trade for their franchise player is unrealistic, entitled and unprecedented.

The Jazz would also get a $22M or so trade exception in this deal.

That could be a useful tool for them in numerous scenarios.

Might make them more amenable to giving us a fair deal.

Could we sign and trade Kelly to the Jazz and keep everyone else?

Need Kelly to agree. Seems like he and Indy are on a collision course right now, though.

Then there's no point in trading him to them and the Celtics will move on.

No. If we keep Rozier + Jackson we won't be under the cap at the end of the trade. In order for the sign and trade to be legal, we have to be under the cap at the end of the trade.

They need a clean trade, not a sign and trade.  Indiana's move sort of screwed them in that way.

I'd say it's more delusional to think we're just going to give up Crowder in a sign and trade with no real return when he has one of the best contracts in the league and has had many admirers and suitors in trade talks for several years now. That makes zero sense whatsoever.

The only way involving Crowder in a sign and trade like this would make sense is if we were trading for some other assets, too. Further, given the fact that A) we need a starting 4, B) Favors is a starting 4, and C) he was recently on the trade block, its completely rational and logical to posit the possibility of him being included in the deal for something like AB and Crowder, which is still probably an overpay on our part.

Honestly, depending upon your view of Favors, it would work very, very well for both sides, and something like that surely makes more sense than us just giving up Crowder for nothing but cap space.

if other teams aren't open to taking Crowder, yes they are

Sure, but that's so far from being a remote possibility that it's not even worth talking about at this point. He's quite possibly the best contract in the league with a 3 and D skill set that is perfect for today's game. His market is assuredly robust.

Yes, it seems almost certain that they are both gonna be gone. :)

As things stand right now, there are three prevailing scenarios

scenario #1 : trade Rozier + Jackson to the Jazz for Hayward

scenario #2 (imo the least likely of the 3) : trade Rozier + Jackson + one of Crowder/Smart/Bradley to the Jazz for Hayward + other asset(s)

In this scenario, Utah has to outbid every other team that wants to trade for Crowder/Smart/Bradley. We cannot take back Favors cause we won't be under the cap at the end of the trade.

scenario #3 : trade one of Crowder/Smart/Bradley to another team and then sign Hayward via cap space

Are we sure they want to trade Rozier over Smart and Bradley?    He's being thrown in like he means nothing to Ainge.  I wouldn't be surprised if they like him more than Smart.

You're presenting it as if there's only 2 possible outcomes. 1) Give away Jae for free or 2) Utah gives up an additional good player in a deal they're already losing

Most likely scenario is Utah sends a protected pick. Even if Utah had Favors on the trade block at some point he's an asset, they shouldn't just give him away.
