Celtics could just be using this negotiation with Utah to encourage other potential Crowder suitors to act. Right now other teams have the leverage - they know we need to move someone in order to sign Hayward, so they could be trying to extort Danny for an unfair deal. Telling everyone that Crowder's about to be taken off the table gives Danny more negotiating power with other teams.

Would be nice if hayward would just shave a couple million off his salary, Durant just took $6M less to stay with the Warriors.

Supposedly he wants to win a title. A little discount wouldn't hurt the cause.

A S&T for Crowder makes the most sense for both teams.

How does it make "the most sense" for us?
Because we need to clear $ to sign Hayward and Crowder's minutes can go to Hayward/Brown/Tatum.

We can send him to another team and get something in return, though. Or keep him, AB, and Smart and look to trade for a big later. Giving him up for nothing doesn't make sense
then Utah doesn't do the sign and trade

If we send him elsewhere then we don't need to sign and trade. Utah doesn't really have any leverage here because we can sign him without their help
I'm bitter.

How does this help with filling minutes at the 4?    As it stands,  Crowder/Brown  at the 4, and no cap space.     We playing Mickey big minutes?

He's already taking a paycut to come here. Asking him to take even more of a pay cut isn't realistic

Hayward already shaved $44 million to switch teams. He did his favor

It's kinda like the Pacers/PG-13 situation, eh?

Hopefully Danny doesn't screw the pooch as badly as Pritchard did.

Why not? KD just did it. Tom Brady does it.

This makes no sense. The Celtics aren't just going to gift Crowder to the Jazz because they feel bad.

Please take my TP.

Absolutely agree. This makes no sense for us, and it's very stupid that we are even considering it if this is true.

There MUST be more to this story. Danny didn't get to where he is by doing other teams favors.
it isn't a favor. its my understanding that they give Crowder so Utah has a reason to do the sign and trade.  Remember when lebron was sign and traded to the heat? The heat gave the cavs like 100 first round picks to do the sign and trade.

No, it IS a favor, because we're giving Utah something and we aren't getting anyting back.

Remember, we can trade Crowder somewhere else and we open up the room to sign Hayward. We also get something back in return. SNT Crowder for GH is practically giving Crowder to the Jazz for free.

What do we get for doing this? Hayward? He's already coming to us...

There's a huge difference between taking a pay cut for your team after winning a championship and taking a paycut to join a different team that is hoping for a Finals appearance

In this case, thiugh, we can make the room to do this without them, and beyond that get actual assets in return. If I'm not mistaken, Miami needed to sign and trade for one of Lebron or Bosh, which gave CLE/TOR leverage that Utah does not have

yes but there has to be another team under the cap that wants Crowder and is willing to give back Danny back assets + no salary in return

Plus don't you have to also trade Rozier , so that Hayward can get his max?

I hope also is not just a sign and trade and Celts can get back a few picks

at least get Tony Bradley in return

I think teams right now are trying to fleece Danny knowing we need to get rid of someone for this to work.  They’re using it as leverage. I think Danny is using this scenario as a tactic to gain back some control.
Play to win.  Always.
