If Utah will take Smart, that's all that needs to be done in a S&T. Now Hayward would have to agree to 5 years verses 4 years. I think he wants the 3+1 so he can become a FA again.

This is the only reason it makes sense for us to do a sign and trade, otherwise, why not just trade Smart to another team for a draft pick?

This is not how a sign and trade works. This is an example of the info given out on the SL broadcast I've been pleading with people to ignore. You CANNOT get a fifth year through a S&T.

I thought you can.

Then this whole SNT makes absolutely no sense for us, at all.

You could under the old CBA (errr, I guess 2 CBAs ago), but that changed during the last lockout

so this is good possibility for everything....and Hayward can sign a 3 + 1 with the Jazz for the max , then be traded to the CEltics. correct?

Yes that is what is happening.  Utah is just trying to get something for Hayward walking, which they should.  That gives Celtics maximum leverage in this situation.

Question related to this:

Is nothing official until the July Moratorium is over or is it just new signings?

In other words, is the rescinding of KO's qualifying offer just a hypothetical right now? Because the other benefit, then, of a S+T is that it would allow us to stay over the cap and keep KO's bird rights, which would help our PF depth tremendously.

Otherwise, the benefit is, if we can get Hayward the same equivalent contract by doing an S+T, and Utah gets Rozier/Mickey/Jackson and a 2nd round pick for their troubles (rather than nothing), then the benefit for us is we keep smart/crowder/bradley this year, which is worth dealing the above.

This.  They are getting nothing besides cap space with Hayward leaving, and most FA targets are gone.

I've explained this several times. Others have linked to dangercart's explanation. I'm sorry that you don't understand.

It would be nice if Hayward shaved some off his 30 mil salary so we wouldn't have to worry about this. Lol

Yeha, and it's not like Rozier is totally worthless. Not a terrible outcome for them, all things considered.

If KO (S&T) and Smart (S&T) for Hayward and Tony Bradley is possible...  Danny should pull the trigger

I rather keep Crowder and AB.

Horford
Crowder
Hayward
AB
IT4

Bradley
Tatum
Brown
Mid Level Exception
Rozier

Well they still have that, Jackson only make $550K and Rozier is probably $2M.  I was incorrect on Mickey I think he would be waived by the Cs (his contract is not guaranteed.)

At least they get something back.

I don't think they'd have to take Mickey actually. Pretty sure he's 100% non-guaranteed.

Its easy to say better than nothing...but they might not care for it

Maybe it explains why Jackson didn't play tonight if something is in the works.

I would think though that Rozier has some value around the league.  Why not see if we can get a heavily protected first, or at least a second round pick somewhere else rather than trading him for nothing here.  Doesn't make sense.

I'd totally give up our own '18 pick (with some protections of course) if it meant we kept Crowder, Smart and Bradley this year.
