Trading Thomas is what I would do and build around the young guys
If we fail to land Gordon Hayward i know this sounds crazy but here this is not gonna give the Celtics a good look as far as Free Agents go and may send us back to the stone ages a bit just until our young guys mature and develop. And by no means do i want to do this at all but if we fail to get Gordon Hayward we almost have to reset the rebuild button.
Ok here it goes, n no matter how crazy this sounds, this could get us alot more then where we'd be if we miss out on Hayward.
Once we signed Al Horford and missed on KD, we immediately jumped into, win now mode. Isaiah Thomas becoming the player he became was a suprise and delight but if we miss on Gordon and trade IT, we gotta package IT along with Al Horford and Avery Bradley, maybe even throw Crowder in the deal. Thats an option to get a few promising potential future stars or another option is to do two differnt trades say IT n Bradley to one team for so n so then Crowder and Horford to another team for such n such.
Its insane i know but if ur gonna trade IT u pretty much gotta throw in the towel and sell off anyone whos considered a win now philosophy and keep building around Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Semi, Zizic, and Rozier core. Get young potential talent or get high picks for the core n dont sell yourself short.
Im not a fan of this by the way. And IMO, Hayward is absolutely on his way to Boston without a doubt. He would be making the best business decision by coming to the East with the West so strong. Cavs are the only road block we got and they wont last forever. With them losing out on Paul George and question marks all over the place in Cleveland with Love and Kyrie unhappy that teams one year from imploding. Gordon would be very smart to choose Boston as his long term destination and play alongside Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Al Horford, and a mix of future assets on that bench. The Boston Celtics are on the Verge of becoming a powerhouse in the East once Cleveland implodes.
