I'll admit, I'm feeling a lot more uneasy about our chances of landing Hayward amidst the hail storm that occurred last night in the NBA landscape.

So lets prepare for worst, say we don't get Hayward (bummer). Want to take any chances on these 2nd tier FA's or trade targets? (Or 1st tier FA that are a little past their primes)

KEEP IN MIND: This is the LAST YEAR the C's have of any max cap space for a long time (unless they straight up trade Horford, which is unlikely and frankly, a bit foolish right now), so Ainge will want to do SOMETHING, even if it's just a moderate upgrade somewhere. So even if we do nothing at all, we won't have max space to pursue a star next year. Frankly, I could see most of the 2018 FA's either re-signing with current teams w/extensions anyways, as it seems to happen under the new CBA. So the list of potential stars available could swindle as next season rolls around.

OH and I DID NOT INCLUDE the likes of JaMychal Green or Nerlens Noel here, mainly because they are RFA and I don't think we will waste our times with them since it seems VERY LIKELY Memphis and Dallas will keep them, and giving them near max or max would honestly be foolish.

Max contract on Paul Millsap. Get done with it. Use your max money on him or overpay for Olynyk or waste our space. Might as well upgrade the roster one way or another.

Overpay for Olynyk... No thanks.

Millsap has a pretty big market right now - Minnesota, Sacramento and Phoenix.

Celtics need to act and schedule a meeting or something with him to show they are interested if they don't get Hayward.

I'll go with Gallo. He's an elite offensive weapon, and we know Danny has had interest in the past.

Problem is, there are reports saying he's seeking a "Chandler Parsons" like contract.

HAHAHA PASS.

I also wouldn't risk a whole 4 year deal on him (only 3 at best).

4/94? That's a bit more than I'd like to pay, but he's only 28 and just put up 18 ppg on 62% TS. Not a lot of those guys exist.

Not a lot indeed.

Lol this would be such a disaster. I think at that point we should serioulsy consider trading IT and Horford because everyones contract is up next year. This was a big year for us. Ainge really did mess up not getting George or Butler. Now idk what we are going to do with Bradley. Also Crowder will probably be upset in regards to the trade talks. Awful situation.

Trade Crowder, Bradley and fillers to Spurs for Aldridge.  Sign Hayward

IT                            Smart       Jackson
Hayward                  Rozier       Bird
Brown                      Nader       Ojeleye
Aldridge                   Tatum
Horford                    Zizic

Idk, we would have to do that trade, but hoping for someone younger at PF. Beggers can't be choosers though.

I mean... this thread was for if we "whiff" on Hayward haha

But that's an interesting idea, though Aldridge's age kind of makes this feel.. meh.

Great poll well thought out Phantom.

Think I might be sitting alone at my spot but I always have hoped that Zach Randolph would find his way to Boston.

When your as stacked as we are sometimes it pays to target a guy who always knows how to find his game in a given situation. Imagine if we resigned Olynyk what kind of benefit it would be to put him next to a next to an assertive guy like Randolph. Frees Kelly to pick am apart on the wing. Horford could also use some help against Tristain Thompson. Thompson having to focus on Randolph could free up Horford to shoot more.

Not to mention he'd be less of a years commitment than guys like Millsqp and Gallo. Also we've got 7/11 cooking on the bench might not make sense to put someone like Iguodalla ahead of them in the rotation. Randolph could provide good inside outside spacing for the two of then.

Gun to my head I might still take Iggy but Zach would be in a unique position to help and Memphis has Parsons and his giant contract to replace him. Randolph on a value contract would be a savvy move for the short term and not crippling long term.

did you by any chance miss the playoffs? AlRidge was terrible while Bradley was great. I could careless how tall he is, he disappeared worse than olynyk

Fallback option? There is not fallback option. Boston will resign KO and some minor end of bench guys. This summer will be a total failure.

The roster will feature a lot of young players, no rim protector and no rebounding...once again. IT will have to do all the scoring.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on Hayward. Without him, I'm not sure I'm interested in overpaying for any of the other options listed. It really just depends on the contract. But I'm assuming most of those guys will be getting max money. I'd rather hold onto our guys and keep building.

If we don't land Hayward my strategy would be to preserve cap space.  Sign a bunch of guys to 1+1 deals to fill out the roster.  Bring KO back on his 4.1 QO if he doesn't receive some ridiculous offer.  Wait for next year for a new max FA.  And in the meantime explore trade options for disgruntled players like Porzingis.
