Glut of guards factored into this decision sources said....that makes sense..Maybe IT is the central piece they are going to build around.

I don't mind moving down...just do not want a guy they really already have on the roster...

So either Celtics get pick 2,3,4,5 next year or the Kings pick unprotected in 2019.

So, top-1 and 6-30 protected. If not, then we get the Sacramento pick.

Makes sense. It's unreasonable to expect to get the #3 and next year's #1 in exchange for this year's #1. And the 6-30 protection is a good call, the Lakers could be good (unlikely) or be barely in the bottom 5 but then get unlucky in the lottery

I disagree about unreasonableness.  If you're trading the #1 overall pick, it's never unreasonable to hope for a future pick at least as good.

Not when you are only moving down 2 spots. Did you forget we also got the #3 pick in the deal?

I did not, but I still don't find it unreasonable to expect a chance at #1 next year.

At least the 2019 pick should be the better of Philly and Sacto if we don't get 2018.  Or 2018 could be the better of LA and Philly, with the current protections.

That's how I see it.  The only way I'm trading #1 without a king's ransom is if the draft looks like the 2013 draft.

Imagine for a second.... Cs could easily have gotten the 3rd pick on lottery night.  We are better off having won the lottery even if the return on this trade is disappointing.

The Celtics' overflowing backcourt also factored into their decision to pass on Fultz, sources say.

Just to tick everyone off a bit more. Danny overvaluing Rozier screwed us once again!  :P\

But seriously, Fultz is probably better than anyone on our team now, but now Danny is drafting for fit at the number one seed?!

This is fireable stupid. IT is going to be 30 by the time he signs his next contract. Set aside his liabilities, HE'S THIRTY!!!

Bradley is also a free agent next year. Do you want to pay him a ton of money?

The glut of guards this year will be extremely trimmed by 2018. This is a stupid reason not to draft a guard.

So what happened to drafting the BPA? I guess that talk from Ainge is now over the past two seasons.

Also, where is the chart for overflowing athletic wings with suspect shooting at? lol

If you read the other tweets he has 4 players basically at elite tier in this draft.  He doesn't even necessarily think Fultz is the BPA or if he does, not by much.  Meanwhile he got close to a lock for a top 5 pick in the next two years.

That's how I'm trying to rationalize this. I would have been fine taking Jackson a month ago, and this is better.

But, the fact is we did get the #1 pick, and this seems like poor value.

I'm doing my best to see the light here, but that sentiment p---es me off.  I'm gonna assume it's nonsense.

Yeah, basically. Ainge considers Fultz, Ball, Jackson and Tatum equal. Fultz and Ball don't fill a need, so he prefers Jackson or Tatum, and gets a future lottery pick for it.

Maybe Danny felt he could not offer the #1 pick for Butler...but the third was much more reasonable.

Still think he just did not want to pick Fultz and knew he could get some extra assets to move down 2 spots.

I just don't understand doing this for anything less than both the 2018 LAL and 2019 SAC picks. Just one or the other is meh. Especially with the protections in place on the Lakers pick as is.

It is poor value. I doesn't matter if we are moving only two spots down, we're passing on a supposedly transcendent player for an asset to be used as a trade chip or draft someone who's not Markelle Fultz.

The whole point of moving down is to get value, and what do we get, a protected LA pick or the Sacramento pick? Jesus Christ...

BPA doesn't mean ignoring trade options. It means not taking a worse player at a position of need instead if the best player available. Trading the pick for a letter pick to take a player at a position of need while picking up other assets in the process is a totally separate thing. If he thinks this return is just as good as Fultz, then the deal makes sense.

He would only be going against BPA if he took Jackson over Fultz at #1 because of the log jam
I'm bitter.
