Ainge has to come out of this with Butler and Hayward or this is just a failure.

Getting Jackson and having to keep the lakers and kings protected picks is just not enough

I think (hope) it may come down to this:

Would you rather have
1) Fultz and Hayward
OR
2) Butler, Hayward, and Jackson/Ball/Tatum

absolutely #2

Dude, Fultz and Hayward.

Both options won't help us beat Golden State, but #1 gives us an ability to compete now and have a cornerstone for the future.

It should have been a freaking no brainer.

Hayward isn't even a certain signing. Remember Utah still can offer the 5th year, technically most money.

If the plan is to FINALLY use these picks to get Butler/George and then get Hayward as a FA while dumping some contracts and thinning out the PG herd...then cool.

If it is simply to collect more picks for down the road and the fact they really wanted Jackson anyway...then I just don't get it. Having three #1's next year sounds great...but we see Ainge doesn't really like picking

Really think Ainge just likes collecting picks. Never does anything with them but trade for more picks
Sure he does. He drafted Jaylen with one this year. He has another this year. He has two more next year. Then he has more. He also has some assets stashed that absolutely have value. And we were top seed with those assets stashed.

We could be the TWolves and draft high every year. Maybe that would be better.

According to league source, Celtics will receive the No. 3 overall pick this year & a protected future first-round pick from Philly, not two

Don't think Himmelsbach is right here, but something to monitor.

The deal is only for the third pick and ONE PROTECTED future #1. Are you serious Ainge?

Celtics and Sixers trade is nearly there. Will set up Sixers to take Fultz, but most league execs say Celtics are not done dealing

And this being a precursor trade for Butler/George is looking more and more likely.

Ugh.

If we trade a fist-full of top picks for a year of Paul George I'm going to be ill.

So let's say George costs something like Bradley, the 3rd pick, and the top-3 or so protected Sacramento pick as the principal pieces, would you not be okay with that?

We'd be adding Paul George now plus adding an additional shot at a top-5 pick next year in a draft loaded with frontcourt players, which we desperately need.

I'm probably still leaning more towards keeping Fultz, but it's hard to be too mad in that scenario.

Paul George is an expiring contract and I do not trust him to re-sign in Boston, so no, I'm not okay with that.

Eh, he's not leaving a Boston team with IT, Hayward (who seems pretty much destined for Boston at this point - has to be a reason Danny went this route), and Horford to go to the freaking Lakers.

People misinterpreted him this season. He said he wants to be playing for the Lakers if he's not contending for a championship. Sure, he'd like to win while playing in LA, but that's just not going to happen anytime soon.

PG is a legitimate MVP-type talent, especially on a Boston team with several other All-Star level players to help him out.
Where are you getting this notion that we can carry 4 max contracts?

It can easily happen, especially with as many rookie-level and cheaper contracts we'll have. We'd be paying a decent tax bill for sure, but it's certainly possible.
No, it cannot easily happen. It's not a decent tax bill, it's a gigantic tax bill, and unlike Cleveland, we don't have one of the richest men in the world as our owner.

We won't have 4 max guys. Our bench would be pathetic, and the lineup posted above has no power forward, no rim protector, and no rebounding. Still lagging behind the Cavs, much less GSW. If that's Ainge's plan, he's lost his mind.

PG is not a legitimate mvp type talent, that's a joke,

Whatever, brah. You're entitled to your opinion. I'm not going to argue with you.

You gotta think Ainge already has a deal in place for someone else if he accepted this trade. He is in total control , with all the leverage, so he wouldn't trade the #1 pick unless he has an extensive plan already worked out for the incoming assets.

Yep. That's what I'm thinking. Doesn't make sense to me otherwise.

Bad joke gets worse. One 1st rounder and it's protected. Ainge is making a fool of himself.

I'll be laughing at Ainge as this mess comes crashing to earth over the next couple years.

My dislike of Rick Pitino never approached what I feel for Danny Ainge right now.

Whatever deal that is, will it beat the ultimate boss in Golden State for, say, the next four years though?

Because we've just given up 8 years of Markelle Fultz, who could have helped us compete AND be a franchise cornerstone for the future.

Value wise it's a loss for us, I'd push for 2 unprotected picks and the 3rd pick

Maybe Ainge wanted Jackson all along and just got some extra to move down. Not sure there is some sort of bigger trade coming.

I'm anxious to see what DA does now because something major is cooking. You don't trade a #1 pick up without a plan to satisfy a rabid Fanbase who on a Saturday night is already 11 pages deep on this thread a few min after it was announced.

Of course, Jackson could go 2nd, and neither Ball nor Jackson want to come to Boston, so that's problematic.
