So the deal is done. Apparently LAL #2 pick doesn't affect Danny's plans.

My guess he'll never make that #3 pick. It will get dealt along with that Laker '18 pick plus maybe other assets for Butler or George or Davis. Butler looks the most likely unless they can extend George.

Butler has $20M left on his '17-18 contract, so trading the #3 saves them another $5M. Butler will cost them $15M next year. Salary room for another star.

Ainge knows what he is doing. He wants to win now.

But my God, that's going to be 3 straight years (totaling 4 overall picks) that have a decent shot of being top-5. Some of those have to be for a trade.

Hey, if we're lucky one of those picks might turn into the number one selection in a draft with a consensus number one guy.

Exactly how I feel. Unless Anthony Davis is coming to Boston you finally had your guy right there for the taking.

We really need some more clarification on the pick protections. I can't imagine that Danny accepted anything more than top-3 for the Sacramento pick, and I can't imagine that he allowed ANY protections on next year's picks.

But my God, that's going to be 3 straight years (totaling 4 overall picks) that have a decent shot of being top-5. Some of those have to be for a trade.
The pick protections are huge.

@FieldYates
The Celtics will soon have 8 first round picks from 2017-2019, including 4 from teams that combined to win 106 games last season.

Ainge has to come out of this with Butler and Hayward or this is just a failure.

Getting Jackson and having to keep the lakers and kings protected picks is just not enough

Multiple NBA sources believe Celtics are working on another deal. One told me: "Who cares about the protections? They aren't keeping them."

I wonder why Ainge doesn't like Fultz?

What's not to like ?

It is very important Boston does not lose the Nets pick for 2018 in any deal.

But the collection of picks needs to be used and not just collected

I think (hope) it may come down to this:

Would you rather have
1) Fultz and Hayward
OR
2) Butler, Hayward, and Jackson/Ball/Tatum

I'm interested to see what are the conditions if either pick doesn't convey, as they aren't Philly's own picks.
Exactly. Also we should have grabbed a player from them...spare me the FA crap. We needed to grab some player from them if they are putting protections(even top 1) on any of those picks.

LAL 2018 pick will not be as valuable. Remember they had to sit their 2 30 million FA's they just signed just so they could suck enough to keep that pick.

It would be hilarious if one of them is protected 1-3 and 15-30 or something like that.

Celtics and Sixers trade is nearly there. Will set up Sixers to take Fultz, but most league execs say Celtics are not done dealing

And this being a precursor trade for Butler/George is looking more and more likely.

Ugh.

If we trade a fist-full of top picks for a year of Paul George I'm going to be ill.

So let's say George costs something like Bradley, the 3rd pick, and the top-3 or so protected Sacramento pick as the principal pieces, would you not be okay with that?

We'd be adding Paul George now plus adding an additional shot at a top-5 pick next year in a draft loaded with frontcourt players, which we desperately need.

I'm probably still leaning more towards keeping Fultz, but it's hard to be too mad in that scenario.

Yeah, we could do that...or, you know, just get some frontcourt players in this year's draft.  Sigh.

Trading the pick has less to do with Fultz and more to do with another deal IMO.

Coming out of this with Butler and Hayward would be the biggest failure possible.

Paul George is an expiring contract and I do not trust him to re-sign in Boston, so no, I'm not okay with that.

Eh, he's not leaving a Boston team with IT, Hayward (who seems pretty much destined for Boston at this point - has to be a reason Danny went this route), and Horford to go to the freaking Lakers.

People misinterpreted him this season. He said he wants to be playing for the Lakers if he's not contending for a championship. Sure, he'd like to win while playing in LA, but that's just not going to happen anytime soon.

PG is a legitimate MVP-type talent, especially on a Boston team with several other All-Star level players to help him out.
