forget what the NBA does. If CBS thinks it was a bush league play then the Cs should suspend him two games without pay, and send him out for anger management otherwise this will become a recurring problem.

The kid has anger management issues.

 ::)

He had a reputation in college and is living up to it as a rookie.  The Celtics would be wise to address it with him.

Perhaps everyone should be judged by a single action that happened when they were 18.

The guy in the crowd was talking crap calling him the "n-word" and all kinds of stuff. At 18 I would've pulled a Ron Artest on the guy if I was in Smart's shoes. Give the kid a break. I'm sure you don't want to be judged and characterized by some of your actions when you were 18. I know I don't.

You really think this is a single action.

He has a reputation, it is his character. It is a character flaw that will not serve him well in the league. The reason he does not get a pass from me is because of his reputation for belligerence. Character is very important because your character leads or follows you like your shadow. I bet he gets nailed by the league because of his reputation. You do not want to be judges as a thug, don't act like one.

I didn't judge him for that, but there is a pattern developing of him losing his temper.  The team should not turn a blind eye to it.

OMG ....what.... ::)..this is a 21 year old ......not a serial killer we are talking about .....emotional young player who wants to win badly .....

Maybe you should take up watching figure skating .

Don't think he should be suspended at all. Very stupid foul that deserved a Flagrant 2 call, just don't see it as malicious given how awkwardly it unfolded. Can't be so wild and floppy with your arms on defense, hopefully lesson learned no matter where it fell on the accident-intentional scale. If he gets anything more than 1 game I'd be very surprised.

I do find it interesting that this incident is bringing up some latent issues a few fans have with his reputation. Personally, the way he's carried himself through the course of the season earns him a little benefit of the doubt. He's been a model Celtic and young leader for this team and, occasional flopping aside, plays tough but fair on defense.

I'll pass on the figure skating.  Lol.  He received a suspension last year and he will likely be suspended for this.  You can play with emotion without punching people in the nuts and missing key games as a result.

The team shouldn't turn a blind eye to it. They should publicly say they agree with the NBA's decision, whatever it may be.

And in private, Coach Wunderkind should tell him to be smarter the next time he wants to hit a fella in the jubblies, and tell him they have their full support.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Guy has kept his composure remarkably well for the entire season. He's under a lot of pressure and rookie fatigue will be setting in with many of these guys.

About 30 seconds earlier at 9.06 minutes remaining you see Aaron Baynes NAIL Smart with an elbow as he comes through switching the screen. I'd say Marcus was fuming from the earlier elbow and some other bumps throughout the night.

He gets a pass from me. Might get one game, can't see him getting more than 2 in a worst case.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

He'll get a game and learn from it. He's still a rookie after all.

He took (presumably) a cheap shot on Bonner after being frustrated by getting hit with a cheap shot earlier. Yeah, he shouldn't have done it, but whatever, the guy has had zero incidents this year. I don't get the concern some folks have on this board about his "character", etc. If you're talking about the incident in college, honestly, I'm impressed he didn't assault that known racist. He got the ejection here...why would he get an additional suspension? This wasn't some egregious hit. It was a cheap shot, sure, but hardly a terrible one. He deserves to be reprimanded, but the ejection should serve that role.

Didn't look too intentional. Unless of course you are a hater. Which is often the case in this forum. He probably tried to be both active defensively and sneaky at the same time, maybe did want some body contact off the screen but it ended worse than what his intentions were. I would give him an 1 game suspension. Of course NBA has been rather inconsistent in the past regarding suspensions.

Marcus Smart has a "character flaw" and is a "thug". Are you kidding me? Thanks for providing zero evidence (because there really isn't much there). Lets not resort to using those terms with scant evidence, lest you come off as racist.

Yes, that's it, I'm a hater. ::)

Just because I think it was intentional doesn't mean I don't like Smaht. Sorry to disappoint. I don't hate on any Celtic. Even though I didn't like Jameer, I still cheered him when he was here. Smart is a player I actually like a lot so the cheering comes easy!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

marcus has been allowed to play the most physical defense in nba for a rookie,he is allowed much leeway,i hope they view this as an accidental flagrant and allow him to play his normal style-i think cutting someones legs or what happened to isiah  flagrant but accidental and much worse-this guy throws himself around i hope this was just another example-
