  • No no no, not THAT "Eric M Van".
8 Pages on this? And they say the front page is silly.   ;)

I'll contribute, I kinda believe Smart when he supposedly said to king paraphrasing

If I meant to hit him in the nuts etc etc

If I lived in San Antonio, I'd ask for the death sentence, but they give that out in Texas for jaywalking.

Nuff said.

this is crazy.

I dont care if it was intentional or not.  No, its not the best way to conduct yourself on the basketball court, but I'll take 15 Marcus Smarts on my team any day of the week.

I just cant believe how some of us are reacting to this after watching KGs antics on the court for four years.  I'm sorry, but theres no difference!  Did he swing hard?  Yes!  But theres countless video evidence of KG throwing his elbows all over the place and hitting people.  It comes with the territory of having this type of player on your team.

That's right.    That was unsportsman like court conduct .   But , it was intense effort  , barroom  fight as KG used to put it .  Marcus is so intense he reacts as if in a battle.

That's why in the 80's .....not many players were friends while in the NBA , they were mortal enemies.  All,this friendship displayed on TV today ,  came after the guys retired , cooled down for years  and got old.

A big part of what is Marcus Smarts game is hard nose defense , fighting though picks thrown by much bigger men.   To play good D you must fight through the picks .  Letting you opponent know , your not going to be intimidated by a bigger player is part of the game if your going to actually play defense and not poke at the ball like Rondo .

Danny should LOVE smart ,  because that is exactly the way DA played the game himself .  In your face , contact , no quarter basketball.

I completely agree.  Marcus is cut from the same cloth as previous emotional, hard nosed, defensive first players that can sometimes lose their heads on the court and play these games to get in peoples heads.  It's not going away.

Dennis Rodman, Kevin Garnett, Ron Artest.........Marcus Smart.     Get used to it.

He will probably get suspended a game or two. It's really not a big deal. Our media will make it one though. They already don't like the Celtics very much.

Yeah, same type of headcase, just not as good  ::)

In fact it is. Whacking two guys in two weeks will get you a reputation in the NBA. And having a reputation goes a long way when it comes to how you're treated by the officials.

Didn't look too intentional. Unless of course you are a hater. Which is often the case in this forum. He probably tried to be both active defensively and sneaky at the same time, maybe did want some body contact off the screen but it ended worse than what his intentions were. I would give him an 1 game suspension. Of course NBA has been rather inconsistent in the past regarding suspensions.

your calling others haters.

Im calling you a big time homer.

Call me what you want. Doesn't change a thing.

Kevin Garnett's reputation didn't cause him trouble with the officials.

I think Smart will get suspended 2 games at worst, one at best. I was surprised by his behaviour but it happens.

Didn't look any worse than Harden's shot to LeBron earlier this month.  Less worse in my opinion, since Harden kicked after the whistle was blown.  1 game at most.  But Smart does need to be careful.  Two flagrant twos in a month is a good way to earn a reputation early.

Its the mega homerism at its best...

it never fails actually

If Wade did this , you all would be calling for his head.....

Its hilarious how people are not able to rationalize, and just feed of their own homer ism...

Many will argue that Wade has deliberately injured players, and I agree with that...I cant stand Wade and his antics..

But this was as intentional as it gets, and Smart deep inside knows this , he got overly angry. Not a good look for Smart...

But with all that said, I dont think its a big deal at all.....I just find it funny that fans of teams NEVER EVER 50/50 a situation, always got to have the fan bias. Which yea is fine and all , but man it really gets annoying after a while. And im not talking about just about our celtics, im talking about in general.

Why would you be surprised? Smart was the most hated player in the Big 12 for a reason. Did this not happen multiple times last year? Flopping and dirty plays and then he wants to fake fight everyone.

I do not care how good he may or may not be now or in the future(not very good IMO). I cannot stand this draft pick and I have embraced every Celtic going back to Sidney Wicks.

Now you know why Wayne Selden tweeted on draft night........."Oh know, not my Celtics!"'

Can't even compare..Smart can't have this reputation as a rookie, he hasn't earned his stripes. That's just the way it is in NBA..certain players get away with more based on their star power...Smart is nowhere near that.

youre right he isnt as good, for now.  its still early.  the fact remains though hes cut from the same cloth.

since you seem irritated with comparing him to Garnett and Artest, I'll drop my comparison to James Posey.

Either way, the James Posey type player is welcome on my team any day.

You just described Kevin Garnett with that bolded statement and then go on to say youve supported every celtic going back to Sidney Wicks.

So why is this behavior ok for KG but not for Smart?  Dont give me rookie, earning his stripe nonsense either.  Youre clearly riding around on your moral high horse here.  Garnett has thrown elbows and then flopped when the player retaliates, Garnett has started these little fake fights, hes even taken groin shots.  So enlighten me to the difference that made it ok for you to be a fan of Garnett in celtic green for all these years yet you cant stand Marcus Smart

Disagree.  Harden and lebron were tangled up and in the heat of the moment, harden kicked in part to get Lebron off him.  May or may not have intended to hit him in the nether region.

Marcus, on the other hand wound up in premiditaed fashion to smack a guy in the nuts.  Much worse what Marcus did.
