youre right he isnt as good, for now.  its still early.  the fact remains though hes cut from the same cloth.
The fact remains that when you're a star, you can get away with a lot of stuff in the NBA. When you're Marcus Smart... not so much.  That's why you should be worried about him developing a reputation before being an established player.

Maybe it's not fair, but that's the way it is.

i can agree with that.  Im not saying Marcus Smart deserves the same respect from the officials, fans, and everyone else that Kevin Garnett gets.  I'm saying that theres a certain level of hypocrisy for people that have no problem being an apologist for Kevin Garnett, but then want to ride around on their moral high horse when it comes to Marcus Smart.

He will probably get suspended a game or two. It's really not a big deal.
In fact it is. Whacking two guys in two weeks will get you a reputation in the NBA. And having a reputation goes a long way when it comes to how you're treated by the officials.

Kevin Garnett's reputation didn't cause him trouble with the officials.

I think Smart will get suspended 2 games at worst, one at best. I was surprised by his behaviour but it happens.
Why would you be surprised? Smart was the most hated player in the Big 12 for a reason. Did this not happen multiple times last year? Flopping and dirty plays and then he wants to fake fight everyone.

I do not care how good he may or may not be now or in the future(not very good IMO). I cannot stand this draft pick and I have embraced every Celtic going back to Sidney Wicks.

Now you know why Wayne Selden tweeted on draft night........."Oh know, not my Celtics!"'

You just described Kevin Garnett with that bolded statement and then go on to say youve supported every celtic going back to Sidney Wicks.

So why is this behavior ok for KG but not for Smart?  Dont give me rookie, earning his stripe nonsense either.  Youre clearly riding around on your moral high horse here.  Garnett has thrown elbows and then flopped when the player retaliates, Garnett has started these little fake fights, hes even taken groin shots.  So enlighten me to the difference that made it ok for you to be a fan of Garnett in celtic green for all these years yet you cant stand Marcus Smart
The only thing Smart and KG would have in common is......0 (Zero) NCAA tournament victories.......

Way to dodge the question!! you clearly have an axe to grind so any kind of rational argument is going out the window.

If you'd like video evidence of Kevin Garnett doing everythin you had mentioned previously I can make that happen for you.  It's already been posted in this thread once.

KG also won a championship for the Celtics. How does his name get involved in this Marcus Smart mess? Makes no sense

so if we win a title none of this matters anymore?  Since your morals go out the window when winning comes into play I hear Ray Rice and Ben Roethlisberger are great basketball players.

Either that or we should see if the local boy scouts are interested in playing for the Celtics with Mr. Rogers as the coach.

lol I get it, I went to one extreme, so why not go to the other

I dont have a problem supporting Kevin Garnett, Id want him on my team anyday, so please dont get confused.  I just have the same mentality about Marcus Smart, I just dont see how you can separate your views on the two bc KG won a title with us.

.....and for the record we already have Mr. Rogers as the coach

Didn't look any worse than Harden's shot to LeBron earlier this month.  Less worse in my opinion, since Harden kicked after the whistle was blown.  1 game at most.  But Smart does need to be careful.  Two flagrant twos in a month is a good way to earn a reputation early.
Disagree.  Harden and lebron were tangled up and in the heat of the moment, harden kicked in part to get Lebron off him.  May or may not have intended to hit him in the nether region.

Marcus, on the other hand wound up in premiditaed fashion to smack a guy in the nuts.  Much worse what Marcus did.
lol this is ridiculous. Watch the tape again. His arm gets tangled on the player before. He didn't wind up.
This statement doesn't even deserve a response.  Talk about alternative reality bizarro world.

And for the record, I like Marcus Smart. Great player and I love his fire. Come to think of it, I actually have no problem with what he did last night.

Other teams need to start getting the message that the Celts a tough team that will not be walked over.

It's just too bad we'll probably lose him to suspension for a game or 2 while we are in a playoff race.

Other than that, I have no issue with Marcus and he's actually my favorite Celtic (Isaiah is also falling into that category.)

Smart should've taken out his frustration on the dirtiest active player in the NBA.... duhwane wade....Bonner isn't trying to take out our players.

havent seen the game yet - which is required to judge the situation correctly

but....

1. Smart is an athlete - if he is punching you intentionally you will hit the deck
2. yeah it looked kinda funny but in the video however it was within the natural motion sequence.. no visible punch swing - no change of rhytem -- so it might really have been unintentional
3. if it was intentional he will never commit it - he wouldnt only hurt himself but also weaken his team by getting suspended for n games
4. if that had been a soccer game - Bonner would have been suspended as well as he mad an headbutt motion (9 of 10 NBA/soccer players would have gone down like hit by lightning and 5 of 10 would be nominated for a oskar for their act)
5. Smart is a smart player from what I can tell - he uses all the tools avalible on D (including some not so clean stuff and he gets away with a lot of it) so why should he punch someone if there are so many other ways to hurt a opponent intentionlly without the risk of punishment (just trip the guy, poke him in the eye going after the rebound, move under the guy when he is in the air so he goes down hard). You really dont have to punch someone and he does know that.

I gotta admit that I have a history of fights (long past) - broken hand bones, cuts on the knuckles and so on.... nuthing to be proud about, but I think after watching the game I can tell if it was intentionally or not. If he did do it intentionally he has to be charged and hopefully he learns his lesson (whatever this lesson is -- not losing his head/smarter selection of dirty moves).

Yes, I rather see a fair game but if some minor dirty tricks help you to win a playoff game for instance I say go for it Smart. He wouldnt be the first and not the last guy. KG is/was using all tools getting into opponents heads, Malone passed into his opponents back on the inbound so the ball came right back to him for the easy layup. Kemp had a bad reputation too.... all those guys used all the tricks to win and all were stars. I'm sure I miss a lot of dirty players as I wasnt into basketball that much prior to the last 7 years and even now I only watch the Celtics games.

he got away with one game... should have been at least two.

All your reasons are purely subjective. No objectivity at all.

Your point pretty much boils down to he didn't do it intentionally because that would not be a smart (no pun) thing to do.

This is awesome.

And Smart is our Lance Stephenson. We NEED this kind of CRAZY ;D

Successful Celtics teams of the past have always had an edge to them....a grittiness. Smart fits that bill just fine.

I'm looking forward to his continued growth and maturity on this team.
