No one's trading anything for either Nelson or Prince.

I posted this in the other thread.  I'm not sure how the protections could work... they already have a heavily protected pick going to Denver.

How do we get a 1st from them if they already have a heavily protected 1st going to Denver.

Someone figure this out...

Quote
2015 first round draft pick to Denver
Memphis' 1st round pick to Denver (via Cleveland) protected for selections 1-5 and 15-30 in 2015, 1-5 and 15-30 in 2016, 1-5 in 2017 and 1-5 in 2018 and unprotected in 2019 [Cleveland-Memphis, 1/22/2013; Cleveland-Denver, 1/7/2015]
Read more at http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed#CsCrCAGY5EQ6A8Cc.99

So how could they send us a 1st?  It's would have to be some weird protection... something like this?

2015 Draft:  1-5 = Memphis keeps it, 6-14 = Goes to Denver, 15-30 = goes to Boston

Then depending on what happens it will have to roll over into 2016... so if it goes to Denver this year and maybe the rest of the protection they had given to Denver goes to us:  Protected 1-5 and 15-30 in 2016, 1-5 in 2017 and 1-5 in 2018 and unprotected in 2019

Does that make sense to anyone else or am I crazy?

They could not do that, because it would then be possible for them to have no first round picks in consecutive future years.  Unless we send them back a first rounder (so a swap), we cannot get a first until two years after they send a pick to Denver.
Oh you're right... because if it goes to us this year, it would probably go to Denver next year...   Interesting.

Yes, which is why people have been saying we likely wouldn't get a pick until 2019, and why I think that means it won't be very protected, unless we also get Jordan Adams (which is more possible now that we have a free roster spot).

I presume (hope) Prince gets instantly bought out?

No.. Hes still an expiring contract... We can flip him for possibly a better 2nd rounder. Jamneer may be bought out cause he has an PO which he'll most likely accept.

I don't think you get a 2nd rounder for Prince. His contract is too big ... too hard to trade for someone who is likely a 15mpg bench guy with low production.
You can package him with a pick and get players back.

A 3rd team getting involved?  Maybe the pick is coming from someone else.  Hopefully.

This is why I'm wondering if a Wright TPE might be in play.

Prince to Team X
Green to Memphis
$5 mil in contracts from Team X to BOS into Wright TPE

Creates $9 mil Green TPE.

ESPN sources say Jeff Green is essentially a member of the Grizzlies now. Teams have agreed to the deal and hope to complete it tonight

Tayshaun Prince and protected future first-round pick to Boston -- most likely not going to Celts before 2019 -- proves enough to land Green

So yeah... the Denver protection means we aren't seeing this 1st for a very very long time.

But then where does this 3rd team come in?
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

If that's the case, I wonder what the protections are on it for Boston?
