I don't particularly want Asik on the Celtics from a perspective of having a fan's commitment to watching the games.

Playing faux GM, though, I think that if DA can do the deal without including our 2014 1st--my gut feeling is that we're going to be more allergic to scoring than the worst offensive droughts we saw with the modern Big three--he has to do it.

It will be ugly.

We will score maybe 25 points a game, on a good night.

We should have a pretty good draft pick, right?

I don't know that the scoring will be terrible, especially with Rondo back. Asik's not a great offensive player but he scores efficiently and he gets more offensive rebounds than Bass.

Fine, I'll go up to 65 points a game, but that's my final offer.

And I'm not really focused on Rondo's return--2nd week of January is my bet--I'm more focused on the without-Rondo times if the trade does go down today or tomorrow.

We probably average 95 a game or so. If you think Bass and Lee in the lineup make a 30 ppg difference to a team we shouldn't be trading for Asik, we should trade them for a player like LMA or Harden.

If Harden is available for Bass and Lee I am all in ;)

Bass is a terrific jumpshooter though and a good offensive player.  So who takes his place?

Sully.

He should be. I doubt LeBron or even MJ ever had as much of an effect on an offense as those two seem to.

Danny Ainge was supposed to be on 98.5 at 9am this morning. He was a no show for the interview and when the Celtics are in "radio silence mode" according to the show. Thats a sign something is up.

I had to go into work....did Danny ever show up?

Are people comparing shaq to Asik? Shaq was one of the greatest and biggest around the basket ever. Its noy liked he sucked in Cleveland before either.
reading into it too far
no comparison meant on my part, i'm saying rondo is that good of a passer he can make shaq look like an all star when he was with boston he can make asik look better than he actually is offensively

League sources said last night that while Boston has dominated the discussion there are a few teams still in the hunt for Houston’s big man including the Portland Trail Blazers and the Milwaukee Bucks, although sources say Milwaukee might not be the team that nets Asik, rather is one of the teams contributing to a larger three-team scenario.

Grain of salt, in that it comes from hoopsworld.

I'd do that in a heartbeat.

The main thrust being that I think the offense is going to be brutally awful to watch between the trade (if it happens) and Rondo's rounding into form.

Just out of curiosity, before the season started did you have our offense pegged as "brutally awful" or "below average but still respectable"?

More stuff to make me think it happens on our terms: Lee, Bass, protected first:

First from:http://spacecityscoop.com/2013/12/19/houston-rockets-omer-asik-trade-deadline-linger-friday/

Quote
Here’s the latest regarding Omer Asik: On Wednesday evening, a source from the Rockets stated that a trade that would send Asik to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee, and a 1st-round pick had a “95 percent” chance of happening by Thursday. - See more at: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1291712#sthash.1oIJiqYv.dpuf

and this from:

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10163639/houston-rockets-move-omer-asik-trade

Quote
The Rockets, sources said, have been interested in prying veteran center Spencer Hawes away from the Sixers along with a future first-round pick, but they won't know until Thursday whether Philadelphia is prepared to part with that much for Asik or whether Boston's offer is the best available. - See more at: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1291712#sthash.1oIJiqYv.dpuf

'6ers will never give them Hawes and a first as they are in a tank rebuild. Asik is an improvement over Hawes and only makes them better, which hurts the tanking and also 6ers want picks, they dont want to give them up, especially an unprotected first. Never gonna happen.

Asik will be in green by sundown.
