I'd lean toward yes on this deal but also don't really care if it didnt get done. Its still a pretty big risk on our side.

The guys 27 and has only played one season as a starter at starter mins. I would certainly be worried if his body will be able to take that beating for semi long term. Big guys like him I think break down a little easier and are more suseptible to injury. I dont have data for that but it does feel like bigs of his size just tend to have all sorts of issues. Plus he is signed up for only 1 more year so who knows what's gonna happen after that.

All of this for an average to a tick above average center. Again Id lean yoward this deal moreso for flexibility reasons but people acting like its a no brainer slam dunk, well I jist think that is a bit optimistic.

Yup - rolling to the hoop for lobs, he will get a few a game doing that.  He will be 10-14 pts a game....

Exactly.  And that's what is so exciting about this trade

Bass is a terrific jumpshooter though and a good offensive player.  So who takes his place?

As long as there are other players on the floor the other teams are much more worried about.

The space Shaq and Rondo found was highly aided by the shooting respect that KG, Pierce and Ray received.

I still love the deal, but the Celtics will need to improve the offensive skills (scoring mostly) at another position in the future.

Yes. If they wanted to use that time on Friday, they still could. RT @DHYLNP: @clutchfans Meaning they have all day Friday to get it done?

Just the same, Omer Asik is getting traded tomorrow. Rockets have a deal now they are willing to do, just waiting on best offers.

Source: Rockets have been informed by league that the deadline is 12/20 (not 12/19) to make trade & still be able to trade received players.

So the Rockets have til tomorrow and they supposedly have an acceptable offer (ours), but they're waiting for a better one.

Doubt anyone steps up, and we get Asik for Danny's offer of supposedly, Bass, Green and a protected first, not sure what year.

The deal is Bass, Lee, 2015 first. Not Green.

My bad, knew that thanks....+1

The idea that you have to be a good two way player to be a legitimate starter is a strange one.

Also the C's do a great job of defending the 3 point line, but not so great at defending the paint. I think Asik would add something defensively and on the glass that we're missing. Right now we're "solid" on the defensive glass, but overall we start all average to below average rebounders (Sully is just average for a C on the glass due to his size disadvantage) at every position. Just having one guy who's elite can transform that aspect of the team's game.

I think Asik scoring will see a tick up once Rondo gets back on the floor....
Somewhat, but in the end he's still a garbage man with stone hands. Finishing off of rebounds and wide open dunks is his game.

Maybe he'll fill the role on offense Wilcox did the last few years.

Are people comparing shaq to Asik? Shaq was one of the greatest and biggest around the basket ever. Its noy liked he sucked in Cleveland before either.

Asik is no Shaq, even old and on his last legs Shaq.  Not that level of offensive talent at all.

That being said, Asik can finish well enough and will be set up to do so by Rondo.  He'd do as well as any PG could do.

I don't particularly want Asik on the Celtics from a perspective of having a fan's commitment to watching the games.

Playing faux GM, though, I think that if DA can do the deal without including our 2014 1st--my gut feeling is that we're going to be more allergic to scoring than the worst offensive droughts we saw with the modern Big three--he has to do it.

It will be ugly.

We will score maybe 25 points a game, on a good night.

We should have a pretty good draft pick, right?

I don't know that the scoring will be terrible, especially with Rondo back. Asik's not a great offensive player but he scores efficiently and he gets more offensive rebounds than Bass.

Fine, I'll go up to 65 points a game, but that's my final offer.

And I'm not really focused on Rondo's return--2nd week of January is my bet--I'm more focused on the without-Rondo times if the trade does go down today or tomorrow.

We probably average 95 a game or so. If you think Bass and Lee in the lineup make a 30 ppg difference to a team we shouldn't be trading for Asik, we should trade them for a player like LMA or Harden.
