Woj says Nuggets were after Doc too and offered a first.

haha do it to spite the Clips. At least they'll give us compensation

a Nuggets 1st would be worth more than both of the clippers first imo.

Koufos and Anthony Randolph for KG?

Stern would never let that happen. I'd like to see this though.

With Galinari out with the ACL, and Iggy moving on would they be enough of a contender to lure KG and Doc?  Probably not, just answered my own q.  Move along....

I'm telling ya, after July 1st when teams can talk to Chris Paul, if he wants Doc and KG our options are going to get a lot better.

Yes. Though do we have to make a decision on PP before then?

Do you guys think Danny wouldnt even budge for just 1 pick because it'd mean losing KG for nothing....since he only wants to be where Doc is and would probably retire?

If Ainge budges here, it means he will have a difficult time holding firm in a future deal, such as if he is trying to avoid giving up both Sullinger and Bradley in a trade to bring in an All-Star caliber player to go with Rondo and Green.

Ainge has to be known as a guy who will not make deals out of desperation.

Why should Sullinger and Bradley be considered untouchable? Neither has really shown me that they should be.

We keep him and trade his salary for picks and exception we use to get Smith, or we keep him.  Neither option is horrible.

The Heat had the cap space and Lebron/Bosh took less money. There were no jurisdiction or logistics issues.

what a coincidence the heat save all that cap space in advance?, wow!, it so usual for teams with stars to not to improve for years, when your star player is coming off contract at the same time

As I recall, there were multiple teams that were trying to manipulate their payroll and have contracts end at just the right time to have a lot of cap space to go after multiple top free agents.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
So basically the following is going to have to happen.
we make the trade
KG for DeAndre Jordan +2 first rounds picks.

This must go through.
Then Doc quits the Celtics with a handshake agreement to go to the Clips.

Dont think Stern can stop that. Might have to call in Lawyers but hes full of shizz if he thinkshe can stop a deandre +2 picks for KG trade.
All Stern has heard are rumors from writers, it would never hold up in court.

The sad thing is that I think Stern can block the trade.  Especially if other owners have already complained.  Unfortunately the rules and the rulebook are Sterns, and if you disagree, well you are out of luck.

Check out Woj's latest updates, he's saying the Clips aren't offering anything for Rivers.
Sounds bad for us but keep in mind Woj is part of a clean up campaign by the Clippers + C's to make the two acquisitions of KG and Rivers look like they're conducted separately and that no NBA laws are being directly broken.
This is advice from lawyers and it's amazing they've already gotten the ball rolling.

I'm pretty positive that Stern has actually announced this because other teams have complained about this trade (particularly Western conference teams in California lol) and Stern is doing his dilligence to make sure it looks like they warned everyone to make sure the process is completed 100% by the book.

This entire saga is quite predictable.
In fact I think Woj's big update earlier in the day about the Clippers not involving any picks for Doc was just part of this smokescreen.

95% this trade goes through.
Media is already helping us clean the image of this thing up. Sterns probably also asked they don't talk until after game 7 because it's distracting from the game.
Look into the bigger picture and stern is just covering his ass by making us and the clips cover theirs.

oh man, if that is the case then everyone is using everyone else and absolutely NO ONE's words amount to anything.  Hard to believe Stern says the things he did today, and then somehow changes his mind and the deal goes through tomorrow.

No I wouldn't worry too much. So much has been leaked that fans and outsiders are getting a pretty clear picture of what it would be like sitting at the table negotiating.
Now that Stern has received complaints from other teams he's making it clear that they need to protect the NBA's image.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

KG is not going to Denver lol

I know. He probably wants to go somewhere warm.

But it's a nice thought. The very definition of a small market team wins it all.

Denver isn't a small market.  Fairly average size.  Teams in all four sports.  Not much smaller than Miami as a TV market, for instance.  The 17th biggest market according to Nielsen, Miami is 16th.

Not really. The C's can pick up Pierce's option on or before June 30th, and be on the hook for 15 million, I don't think they want to do that, but they could.

After that they could still trade him, but it would be as a player and a large expiring contract, not as an immediate cap relief. There might be teams interested, but they would be different teams than those interested right now. Right now, we think teams would want Paul to not pick up his option and free 10 million in cap space. As of July 1st, if the C's picked up the option, he would be of interest to teams looking for him as a player this year and/or an expiring contract *next* summer.

The C's can also amnesty Paul, removing all 15 million from their cap, effectively putting Pierce on the market as a FA at any time after June 30th. Doing it this way costs the team an extra 10 million, though.
