Celtics asking for bledsoe again?

The trade involving the Celtics and Clippers for DeAndre Jordan has become a second priority for the two teams.

The Clippers have shifted their focus to just getting Doc Rivers and seem unlikely to give up more than a first-round pick. The Celtics have been reportedly trying to get Eric Bledsoe, but since he remains one of the best backups in the NBA, the Clippers are justifiably unwilling to acquiesce. Jordan doesn't really create his own shot and isn't much of a stand-alone asset.

The report is kind of jumbled and seems to depart from everything we have already known the past few days.

If it wasn't you [somebody who seems to be on top the whole situation], I would question it altogether.

I'm pretty sure that while you can get a pick or cash considerations for releasing a coach, under no circumstances can you receive a player.  Don't think this is possible even if the Clippers were willing, which is really unlikely.

I thought Stern was very clear that you cannot trade for a coach. I know in other leagues teams can be compensated for letting contracted coaches out of their deals to move to another team, but it is not allowed in the NBA....or so Stern said.

This is definitely the stupidest story in my memory of Celtics basketball. Danny wanted to avoid another Big 3 debacle (keeping them too long past their prime), but he has created a whole, new (possibly worse) debacle with this Clippers' deal.

That just isn't true. Stern has let so called "trades" for Coaches happen under his watch TWICE before.

No-one has ever traded a coach, and the Celtics weren't trying to. The Clippers weren't assuming any existing contractual obligations to Doc Rivers the way you do in an NBA trade.

From what I understand, I also think the only consideration that can be offered for a coach is cash and/or picks or pick swaps (think Miami got an option to swap picks for SVG).

Yup - the pick or whatever for Doc would've just been for releasing him from his contract.  Once that happens there's absolutely nothing preventing Doc from signing with a different team, quitting coaching altogether, or screwing over the Clippers in any number of ways.  Under no circumstances do the Clippers get his rights, or any other legal hold on him.

So it's not a trade, it's just a release where the coach has promised the team offering compensation he'll sign with them.

I've got a hunch that CP3 and Dwight are going to join Atlanta.

It seems like they want to play together and the Hawks are the only team with enough cap space to sign both without anyone having to jump through hoops (no pun intended)

At least what I would do, if I were them

A lineup of CP3, Howard and Horford would be nasty.

I think howard is going to go to houston, i think if houston could shed asik, lin, and t robinson they might be in good shape to get both maybe not

Really? I didn't realize that. If that's the case, maybe the Celts could deal Pierce for Lin, Asik and Robinson and then they waive Pierce. That way, we sorta do Houston a solid and they land both Paul and Dwight. Celts would also get some pretty darn good players too (I like Asik.)

Maybe someone else can confirm whether Houston would have enough cap space for both Paul/Howard if they deal Lin, Asik and Robinson.

I forget where i saw it, i think they could sign 1, but i think the other has to somehow be a sign and trade.

My No. 1 guy just said #Celtics #Clippers still on--or at least C's hope so as much as LAC, eager to rebuild. not keen to pay Doc $7M

Just in from source close to #Clippers: Talking 4 years, $16-20M w/Byron, 3 worth $9M w/Brian… Byron's the fave if no Doc. Donald loves him.

Ok, which then makes things more complex for Houston. I think the Hawks are the only team that can sign both without having to sign/trade anyone
