and that is the problem...don't want to be the 8 seed...would rather be a lottery pick than a first round exit

No worries there.  A Rondo-Bradley-Green-Sully-Jordan starting lineup easily nets us one of the three worst records in the league.

there isn't one guy in that group that can hit a jump shot consistently.

Not that it really matters but I'd love to see the overlap between the people bemoaning this deal now and the people making "blow it up" threads for the last 4 years.  Be careful what you wish for.
I thought our chance to blow it up would have been during the trade deadline last season (2011-12 season).   That's the last chance we had to actually get serious assets for our old players.  There were discussions about landing a lotto pick for Pierce... and OJ Mayo for Ray.  That was your real shot.  This year it was too late.  And now at this point... we're talking about really weak assets.  DeAndre Jordan's albatross contract and filler for Pierce and KG?  Meh... we're missing the playoffs regardless.  We might as well just hang onto KG and Pierce to at least the culture can carry over to the next generation.

Jordan is not an albatross - he was the starting center on a 56 win team (a top 10 defense to boot), he's in good health, he's still a month shy of his 25th birthday and his contract runs for 2 years.

He's overpaid, but he's not trash - a lot of potential value in him.

Add in a couple of picks and you've got a fine haul for a 37 year old KG (who might retire otherwise) and Doc (who clearly doesn't want to be here).

This isn't an amazing deal, but it's very solid.

Sort of like the Raef for Toine deal, only with a healthy Raef with two years less on his deal.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

WOO HOOOOOO!!!!

A. Sherrod Blakely ‏@SherrodbCSN 43s
In addition to Vinny Del Negro, former #Celtics asst. Lawrence Frank expected to emerge as candidate to replace Rivers as well.

I thought Frank has already accepted a gig helping Jason Kidd coach in Brooklyn?

Oh, I hadn't heard about that. That would be a fantastic coup for Jason Kidd and the Nets. Lawrence Frank is such a smart Xs and Os guy. Great in-game coaching. Great basketball mind. Very hard worker.

I question Frank's leadership / motivational / team building skills but his mind and understanding of the game is fantastic. A perfect foil to someone like Kidd who has all those other qualities.

Absolutely perfect as lead assistant to a rookie head coach like Kidd. That would be fantastic for Brooklyn if they can get that together.

I just wanted to chime in here -- I'm one of the people who have advocated blowing it up, and I think this potential deal is both ugly and necessary.

This process isn't pretty, or enjoyable.  And this upcoming season is probably going to be tough to watch at times.

But this is what has to happen.  Just the way of things in the NBA, unfortunately.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
RT @MarkHeisler: Second source confirms #Celtics, #Clippers' progress… Eric Bledsoe not in it. Neither is Paul Pierce. LAC would wait for C's to buy him out

Don't think Danny will just buy out Pierce and not get anything back.

SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan

no surprise there...just wait a week and get him for free...which means this deal is going to be jordan and 2 first round picks...

so basically boston gets ZERO for the heart and soul of the franchise.

DeAndre Jordan is not a difference maker. he cannot shoot...he cannot make FTs. He is marginal

I think DeAndre Jordan could be traded to Portland for their 2013 first rounder (#10) or a top ten protected 2014 pick.

Portland badly wants a center who can anchor their defense and round out their starting lineup. They have a lot of cap space this summer so they can absorb the contract. After Dwight Howard, their only real alternative in the free agent market is Nikola Pekovic. Plus, their GM is the guy who gave DeAndre Jordan his contract back when he was with the Clippers so he probably still rates the lad.

I think that would be a good move for both teams. Allow Boston to enter a larger rebuilding process, lose more games, improve their own draft pick next summer(s) and add a late lotto pick to their roster.

Not a bad idea. Unfortunately, Charlotte owns Portland's 2014 1st rounder.

Ah, I didn't know that. Have to be a future first then if they can't agree on this 2013 pick.

Doc could never actually be in the deal. The Celtics would release him of all of his obligations. It's essentially a KG trade.

I think Caron Butler would be a very good backup SF behind Jeff Green.

Really reinforce that bench. Which means an even higher likelihood of playing .500 ball.

Surely DA can Hire somebody better than that loser Vinnie D.

A unknown would be preferable  to a known  sorry nothing coach.

-problem is you have no back up PG and a starting pg coming off a blown knee

-you have 2 very undersized Pfs

-you have no shooting guards that can actually shoot from outside (lee, bradley and crawford)

-jason terry is still on the roster

-you get no scoring from your center positon and have no size off the bench

-and you have the possibility of del negro as your coach...a guy that has shown he can't develop players and is not a good coach at all

I'm sure the "compromise" will be to throw in Lee / Terry or Bass in exchange for Willie Green + Caron Butler.

Boston has to at least shed some of the cap-eating contracts if they're not getting Bledsoe and multiple firsts.
