Trade:

OKC Sends: Blake Griffin, 8.24, 10.16
NYK Sends: Serge Ibaka, Kendrick Perkins, Courtney Lee

Like the Knicks going for it though I'm not sure it'll be quite enough to compete. What's the updated roster there?
Ricky Rubio
Carmelo Anthiny
Blake Griffin
Andrea Bargnani
And a ton of picks to fill out roster.

Doesn't matter anymore, pal. The games over.

Really? This trade is really terrible for Yoki, but does it really make the Cavs all that much better? Lowry is the better rebounder, defender, and passer, and still managed to score well as a first option. When he was healthy, he was a better player than Irving last season.

Irving should continue to improve, but his real value is that in 2-3 years or so, he should be at or near the list of point guards in the entire league. I'm not really sure this makes the Mavs better, I think you could argue it hurts them this year.

It annoys me that you tried to justify that for Yoki, Roy. Why couldn't you just continue your Chester cat impression? At least I could get some enjoyment out of that.

Yoki adds a starting caliber point guard, who's absolutely hit his ceiling, to a team that's going no where. It's unjustifiable by every means. There's no two ways about it.

Yoki is a good guy.  I understand people being upset, which is cool.  I just wanted to present a viable case for what his vision was (or at least, his vision from my perspective.)

But yeah, I think Edgar and I did well here.

Trade

Lowry, 6.21, 11.20, 13.20

for

Irving, 10.15, 11.1, 12.15

I cannot find a metaphor to describe this that I think is a fair indicator of how I feel about this trade.

3.11, 6.21, 11.20, 13.20

for

1.18, 10.15, 11.1, 12.15

I'm just pretty much flabbergasted.

Didn't you tell us that you can't judge a trade by draft position?  (And genuinely, I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, but it seems like something you would agree with.  Especially if we start charting out your trades.  ;D )

In terms of my perspective, I like the trade for Edgar and I, obviously.  I love Kyrie Irving, maybe more than anybody else in this draft (except for maybe nick).  I've called him a superstar, and I was candid with Yoki about that.

But here's the other side, from Yoki's perspective:  Argubaly, Lowry and Irving aren't far off in their present capability.  Lowry is a better defender, a better rebounder, and a better passer, and he's also a very good scorer.  He's a better fit in Yoki's backcourt, because he and MKG can shut opposing players down.  With Bogut as a backstop and Barnes / Young patrolling the perimeter, teams will have a very hard time scoring on that team.

Plus, at 6.21, he's going to get a quality starter.  We're talking about the 141st pick in this draft.  For perspective, there are 150 NBA starters.  That means you're getting the equivalent of a starting-caliber player.

I essentially traded Steph Curry for Kyle Lowry.  I see them as pretty equal players.  If this was Curry + a 6th for Kyrie, I doubt anybody would think it was unfair.  I think there's a lot of good for Yoki in this deal.

(Fully prepared for IP to call that opinion "hot garbage" again. ;) )

I was gonna say this. But, okay.

I did give up a big chunk of potential. But the team got better defensively. Lowry is in his prime, and will still be in the mext4 years or so, an he's a near all star talent. Sure along the road Irving might be top 5 PG, but Lowry  will not be that much far off.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.

SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

Well the knicks blockbuster gets nothing cause of this insane trade for a run of the mill scoring pg for one of the best young points in the game.

Is the Knicks trade official yet?

Here's my perspective on that deal:  any time you can get a star power forward, like Blake Griffin, you do it.

However, you went from having an excellent team in terms of "fit", to one that is going to struggle as it stands right now.  Bargnani/Griffin/Carmelo is going to struggle mightily in terms of defense.  Also, will Carmelo share the ball with Blake, when he wouldn't with Amare?

The good thing is, you have an entire week to figure out how to find some defense.  I think you're in good shape.

Conversely for CP07, the trade makes sense for him, too.  I just hope he can have some luck in finding one more guy in terms of elite talent.

Why give up that potential when you're building to the future?

I don't see a viable case to do so unless you're convinced that Irving "won't" get better.

No, no he won't. The point guards that are better than him will continue to get better, and many point guards below him will jump ahead of him. He will continue to be an above average point guard who has hit his ceiling. You've acquired Avery Johnson.

Solely in terms of scoring, where does Kyrie Irving rank as a second option?

I would think he is up near the top of the league.

Wow, big trades last night. Will have to look over the new rosters.

I can make the 6.2 shortly. Trying a last ditch attempt at a deal.

You can chart out my trades. I've done it. It looks less shocking than you'd think. You've gotta do each trade, not one big summary.

And I don't think you can just judge trades by draft position, but you can use draft position to help judge trades, and I judge this one to be extremely unbalanced.

True.

Lies. 26 year old Lowry is not a better fit in Yoki's backcourt.

And of the 150 starters, how many should not in any effect actually be starters? 30? 40?

151 can be a valuable pick for sure, and you could get a legitimate starter. But you're not guaranteed that by any means.

Oh I think everybody would think it was unfair. I don't know what kind of argumentative tool that one is, but saying an unverifiable hypothesis and pretending its true sounds like lawyer talk.
