It depends who my big man is that I take next round. If he's a big name, I'll likely start the big guy. If he's a smaller name, I'll likely start Faried.

I appreciate IP saying this; we don't often see candor like this.

IP won't start the guy he thinks is the better player.  Rather, he'll go for the bigger "name", because this exercise has become all about winning votes.  It's a smart strategy and a winning strategy, because many voters aren't going to be open-minded about challenging their pre-conceived notions.

As one of the co-founders of the CB Draft, I'm a little sad that it's turned into this.  Pandering for votes, and putting an inferior team on the floor to do so, is the exact opposite of what we were originally going for.  However, it's the strategy that wins.

For the record, I didn't like the trade for IP.

I just woke up, so I might still be dreaming but, huh?

I meant if the guy is an established starter, I'll likely continue to start him, to avoid chemistry problems. If the guy is a guy who is used to coming off the bench, I'll bring him off the bench.

Where did you get all that mess about pandering for votes and whatnot?

You didn't mention chemistry or starters or bench players, so I guess I didn't get what you were saying.  My interpretation was that you were going to start the guys who were most well known.  If that wasn't your intent, it should have been; you'll win more votes with "big names" than you will with good, but lesser known, players.

Meh, see Ersan Ilyasova, I for one really had no idea who he was a couple years ago.  But maybe that was just my lack of knowledge

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Oh. No I didn't mean that at all. I was commenting on Faried's versatility and temperament, which allows me to take an established starter (like say an Elton Brand) here and continue to start him without screwing around with Faried's head.

Ilyasova is a good example of the "names" thing, actually.  If IP had used a bigger name, but a lesser player, than Ilyasova, he might have a championship under his belt.  Maybe he learned his lesson. ;)

Who have been our CB Draft finalists / Final Four teams since this thing got started, anyway?  I keep getting confused on that.

2007:  No voting, just press conferences
2008:  Voting, but no playoffs.  Portland garnered the most votes.
2009:  CrotoNats (Edgar) vs. Raptors (Rondo2287).  Other final four teams were Kwhit (Philly) and ?
2010:  Suns (StartOrien) wins over IP's Lebron team.  Rondo2287 is back in the final four?  Did Sacramento make it that year as well?
2011:  mgent wins over IP's Bogut / Amare team. Rondo2287 makes a third final four appearance, along with nick, as their Lebron team is upset.  The fourth finalist is...??

I know some people were talking about MKG's ceiling as the next Pippen, but i'd be interested to hear people's takes on what Leonard's ceiling is, because he had a reeeally impressive rookie season.

6'7'' 230...very similar size to Pippen.  Not as quick or as good a defender yet, but this is a guy who the Spurs are counting on to defend Kevin Durant for the next decade.  Rebounds like a 4 and his shooting numbers were very impressive as the season went along, too. I hope people don't sleep on this guy.

Not sure who the other was that played Mgent in the other semi finals.  Gahh, well hopefully history will repeat itself and IP will knock me out in the final 4 again this year.

I'd say Ultimate Respect.  When you inspire people to vote against you, you know they're scared. ;)
