This honestly seems like a lateral move to me since this game is played in the short term.

All I can say is watch them both this year.  You're going to be surprised about how big the gap becomes, and very quickly.  Irving is a superstar.

100% agree.

I have Irving ranked as #7 just behind Westbrook and Tony Parker.

I expect to rank Lowry somewhere in the 10-13 range along with Rubio, Holiday and Dragic.

Lowery for Irving is turrible. Wish Lucky and I knew Blake was on the block.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Sure along the road Irving might be top 5 PG, but Lowry  will not be that much far off.
Why give up that potential when you're building to the future?

I don't see a viable case to do so unless you're convinced that Irving "won't" get better.

No I admit I gave up potential. Potential.

Lowry is and will be a near all star level PG in the next 3 years, that where Kyrie turns superstar, I get that. The team got better defensively, Lowry and MKG will shut wings down.

I got a pick this round to add more solid depth to the team.

I understand the team is no longer a TOTF candidate, but as of right now, Kyrie and Lowry are not that far apart. Kyrie is a better scorer, Lowry better defender. The team is still a nice fit, complete with shooters, inside prescense and defense is even better.
So you want to be a team that's outside the playoffs and has a lesser future?

Well, Barnes and MKG has great upside too don't they?
Sure they do but Irving wasn't going to hold them back, he would have helped their development.

And Lowry can't? Lowry is a very good playmaker and not ball dominant.

Its not like Lowlry will decline in the next three years.

All this backlash is because of potential and I admit I gave up potential to make my team better defensively and not that much of a drop off on offense.

Kinda a surprise but I'm going with Chris kaman at 6.3
I think you need to trade Perk.

Marc Gasol and Chris Kaman is a very nice center combo. Serge Ibaka at PF too. You could go with a three player big man rotation there. Give Kaman and M.Gasol some court time together and pound teams in the post. That would be fun.

I see the appeal, but his injuries and decline scared me.  Edgar and I talked about him a lot, but ultimately took him off our list.  Too unreliable at this point.

Plus, check out his synergy stats.  He played horrid, horrid defense last year.

He's still probably worth the gamble in the 6th, but he's a bigger "name" than he is "player" at this stage.

Congrats on TP #800.  It's good to see competitors posting something other than rhetoric.

I really wasn't trying to hate. I just don't anticipate a HUGE difference between the two next season. In three years of course. Next year not so much. That's all.

My take: bad team, bad situation, good player. I looked at those stats and I decided he was really the no-brainer option.

There is a huge drop-off offensively.

Lowry is a solid scorer but nothing special. Irving is already a very special scorer in the league. Someone who can create his shot against pretty much any defense and is a highly efficient scorer. He can be the #1 scorer on a title winning team. Lowry is a third-fourth option. A 15-17ppg guy with mediocre scoring efficiency.

There is some difference in them as a floor general / playmaker but Irving should be able to close most of that gap next season. It's not like Lowry is all that great in those departments.

Before getting injured last season his last 4 seasons he played 72, 82, 82, 82 games. I wouldn't be overtly concerned with his health.

He's one of two guys I had pegged for IP, I thought he'd go with the other fella but I aint mad.

I think Irving can be the best player on a contender if he develops. I don't think that about MKG/Barnes

Lowry can't be and has no chance of being that good.

Okafor scares the hell out of me. He is so inconsistent and undependable.

I had given up on him 24 months ago but then he started to win me back around that next year ... and now last year, gosh, awfu ... I just don't have a clue. He scares the hell out of me. Never know which guy is going to show up. Can't rely on him. Very irritating.
