Yeah, Bard went all those innings without an earned run, but now he's in a different sort of streak.

Our bullpen is basically Aceves and Papelbon.  Nobody else is a safe bet to put on the mound.

One thing should be certain -- Bard's struggles recently have rather simplified the question of whether the Sox should keep Papelbon or make Bard the new closer.

Prediction:

Rays will take 3 out of 4 in Boston this weekend, and the Sox will be tied with the Rays in the Wild Card race within the next week.

Good lord, here's a list of pitchers I never need to see in a Red Sox uniform again:

Lackey
Albers
Matsuzaka

As happy as I am for Wake on getting 200, I wouldn't be crushed to never again see him starting a game for the Red Sox, either.

Meh, there's "no pressure" from me in the sense that at this point I expect nothing from this team.

Call it what you want, buddy.  When I see a consistent pattern of evidence over a long period of time I tend to expect it to continue.  I'm too rational for blind faith in the home team.

Like when they started the season 2-10 they continued to play .167 for the entire season.

When they started the season poorly, I was concerned, but I was pretty sure they'd get better.  It was only 12 games into the season, and the talent on the roster was too good.  Right now, there's a whole season of evidence, and I dont have much confidence in the Red Sox pitching anymore.  The offense can and most likely will improve, but the Sox arent going far without drastically improved starting pitching and a more consistent bullpen. I just dont see where that's going to come from.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; there are few things in sports tougher to watch than a baseball team in a slump.  Though the opposite is also true.

A double play on a sac bunt?  Egadz.

Gotta win this one.
