How much longer will J.D Drew be on the roster? Is he only surviving right now because of Ortiz being suspended? It is impossible to justify him starting over Reddick at this point. The roster spot would probably come down to him or Darnell McDonald. Call me crazy, but I would rather have Mcdonald. Although his numbers are equally embarassing to Drews he is actually hitting a little bit at the moment, including putting away the game today. Plus he has only had 75 at bats this year compared to Drew's 230, so I am a little more confident he can pick it up than Drew who has been doing this in everyday action since the all star break last year.

Plus at some point I think JD Drew becomes a distraction because of his contract. Putting him as a 4th outfielder would seem like a risk for chemistry and he doesn't offer much as a pinch hitter or pinch runner. I might go as far as to say McDonald has more power at this point and would seem to be an ideal person for that 4th or 5th outfield spot. What do you all think?

I heard someone refer to Drew on the radio as "already retired".   :D

Well it's clear now that Tito is going with Josh Reddick over JD, so RedSox Nation can breath a sigh of relief.

Lackey looked solid last night.  In is last 3 starts, he is 3-0 with 1.86 ERA and almost a strikeout per inning.

Jackoby Ellsury is HOT.  Right ladies?

Lester is coming back soon.

Life is good.

A lot of Sox players are playing over their heads this season, picking up the slack of our injury plagued rotation and Carl Crawford's down season.

Can they succeed in the postseason on this current wave...we shall see.

I only see Jacoby (maybe) as the only one playing over his head.  What guys do you think are playing over their heads?

Josh Reddick and Andrew Miller to name two.  Mind you that is not a bad thing!

I also think Beckett is playing over his head and to an extent...even David Ortiz is playing over his head.

I think the way you put together that statement is revealing -- though it's true that some of the Sox players seem to be performing above reasonable expectations, more than a few others have performed well below expectations this season.

In that light, I don't think their current success is unsustainable by any means.

Not to get too far ahead, but I think I'm ready for another Sox - Yankees series. It would probably be the last chance to see the nucleus of the Yankees team go up against the Sox in the ALCS. It would be a fun series, and I think we'd beat `em.

I've got tickets to next Friday night's game and I too can not wait for Yankees-Red Sox games to start up again.

Well, I think to really have post season success, we need to have a healthy rotation.

Beckett is our healthiest top tier pitcher.

Lester might be 85%, can he get back to 95% by the playoffs?

Clay Buchholz is 80%? He hasn't pitched since mid June?

I think if Beckett can maintain his stellar season, we really just need one of Clay/Lester to show up healthy for the playoffs. If we get both, great!

After those 3, I actually trust Wakefield the most out of the rest of our rotation/staff.

The Rangers may have something to say about that, but as long as the Sox are there (and win) it's all good.  Oh and how about the Giants nabbing Carlos Beltran.  I think they're right with the Phillies now if not better and the Braves aren't to shabby either nor the Tigers.  I think the Sox got as good of a shot to win the WS as anyone but it's not going to be as easy as every year one says around here.

According to a ton of baseball writers, it looks like the Sox are getting Rich Harden for Lars Anderson/PTBNL. I like the deal, because even if/when Harden breaks again, they won't have given up anything of value to them, with Lars being blocked for the longterm.
