Sox payback against CC, feels good.  Ellsbury HAS to be named player-of-the-week.
It has been a tremendous week.

Red Sox finally hitting a funk again.  Hopefully they'll finish the month well and have a strong September.

I have trouble feeling good about their post-season chances with the starting pitching being so decidedly average.  The offense is generally very good, but is clearly prone to stretches of non-production.

It's really hard to pick against the Phillies, who have been the most stacked and dominant team pretty much all season, to win the World Series.

Lester and Beckett are both elite. Bedard has been really solid despite some bad defense and such behind him in his starts. Lackey has pitched well enough to give an offense like ours a chance to win (his starts are at least winnable now, something you couldn't say earlier this year). The offense is just going through one of those rough stretches it seems... Some guys like Youk and Gonzo just need a few days off I think.

Edit: BTW, I picked the Brewers to come out of the NL. The Phillies are an incredible team but I'm thinking upset.

Pos , I love when you post and proclaim the Sox in a slump or not being able to sustain their success or not having enough pitching because every time you do, they go on a winning streak and then we don't hear from you again until they slump again.

I'm now feeling pretty good about this 8 game road trip whereas before I wasn't. Thanks.

:)

are you contesting that they're in a slump, tho?

i don't doubt that they'll come out of it; every team hits a rough spot at some point in the season, and the sox have been due for a while considering how well they were playing for most of the season.

all i'm saying is that the phillies are stacked.  just not sure i see who can beat them.  i think the red sox have a decent shot at getting as far as the world series, though, if they can get to the post-season healthy and ready to go.  maybe buchholz will even make a surprise return.

as for not hearing from me unless the sox are in a slump, well . . . nobody else seems to post in this thread unless they're responding to one of my posts. :P

Just so nobody can claim I only post here when bad things are happening, I want to recognize the crazy offensive surge over the past few games -- the Red Sox have totally been crushing the Rangers.

Adrian Gonzalez has 3 HRs in his last 3 at bats (!) and the Red Sox have one HR in each of the first 4 innings tonight.

Fun stuff.  Andrew Miller has looked good so far, too, and recently Lackey and Bedard haven't been bad, either.

Here's hoping Wakefield gets his 200th win at home on Friday.

Now you disappointed me. I told you since you posted I knew that the Sox were going to have a great road trip. Your pessimism when they are down is what is needed to bring them back to life my friend. Now lets hope you didn't go and jinx them.

Wait, did the Yankees just score 22 runs in three innings.

Too, late, you jinxed them. You are only supposed to posted the doom and gloom when they are slumping to break that slump.

Pos, don't you realize what you are? You are a slump buster. That ugly chick the Sox pick up while on a slump to have fun with to break the slump. Please don't post again until the Sox are slumping bad.

 ;) :D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I hope you realize this entire post is a joke.

Very impressive series.

Instant energy from Ellsbury back in the lineup and Gonzo's got the power stroke back.  Scary lineup.

Poor Wakefield.

6 shots at #200 now and still winless.  Must be feeling snakebitten these days.

He's pitched well enough to win a several of those starts (left with the lead in a couple I believe).  Last night was not his finest.

I think they need to just send him to the bull-pen and give him the chance to perhaps win a game that way.  Either he's tired at this point in the season, or this 200 win thing has gotten in his head.

Either way, we have 5 solid starters now (Becket, Lester, Lackey, Bedard, Miller).  We don't need Wake starting games; his starts have turned into almost automatic losses lately.

Wakefield has pitched poorly in his last two starts (including pitching terribly yesterday).  However, his previous four winless games weren't necessarily his fault:

8 IP, 4 ER -- Sox lost 5-3
7 IP, 3 ER -- Sox won 8-6, No Decision
6.2 IP, 3 ER -- Sox won 4-3, No Decision
7.0 IP, 3 ER -- Sox lost 3-1

None of those performances were outstanding, but they're certainly good enough to win.
