I've come to the conclusion that the Red Sox are just really bad against the Rays, for whatever reason.  Gotta hope they win the vast majority of their remaining games which are not against the Rays.

and we'll be doing some rooting for the Yankees as the Rays have 7 games remaining against them.
Yup

Red Sox remaining schedule:

4 games against Orioles
3 games against Yankees
3 games against Orioles

Rays remaining schedule:

4 games against Yankees
3 games against Blue Jays
3 games against Yankees

Thank God for the Orioles.  My guess is the Red Sox go 5-5, Rays go 6-4.  Red Sox sneak into the post-season with the Wild Card (earning the right to get beaten by the more-deserving Tigers).

This is my official hex of the Rays, (sorry, ThirstyBoots ... I usually root for them, too, but not right now). The Wild Card belongs to the Sox!

Thank you,  Bahku, for allowing the Rays to get this close.  We will now try to muddle along without you!  :P   ;)

Since I am a fan of both teams (Red Sox and Rays) the question is which team can send the Yankees down and contend in the World Series.  Right now, the Rays seem to me to be a more cohesive unit, and the Red Sox don't seem to have their heads or hearts in it.

Down 5-1 to the Orioles already.  Yikes.  Kyle Weiland is clearly just not ready to be a starting pitcher in the MLB.

TP for the way you think (Hate the Yankees), even though you are a Rays fan.

Way to work out of the jam there!

Runners on 2nd & 3rd with no outs and Aceves gets a short fly-out to right, then back to back strikeouts.

Still down 6-5 going into the bottom of the 8th but big stop there.

This is pathetic watching the R-- --x right now. I have been whining on the SoSH message boards but right now, the numbers clearly show the R-- --x do not belong in the post season.

This season will end abruptly with a 6 win month in September.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Weiland sounds like he might be fighting tears in the post-game interview (or maybe his voice is just wavery normally).

I don't understand why they're putting this kid out there starting big games in September.  He's not ready.  They should have played him from the bullpen (like Tampa did with Price a few years ago) and started Aceves.  Instead, they're playing Aceves 3-4 innings after the starting pitcher gets the team into a big hole, but it's a waste because it's already too late.

I love close contests, and I am loving  this one between  the Rays and the Red Sox.  That being said, I am going to give the Red Sox some advice.  Forget about the Rays.  You are ahead of the Rays right now.  All you have to do is win the next game.  To do that you can't hope to win the next game, think you are going to win the next game or plan on winning the next game.  You have to know that you are going to win the next game.  You have to throw your heart on the field and go out and get it.  Just the next game.  You will only win this race by winning one game at a time.  You  have not been playing like you want to win or believe you can win.

Want it.  Believe it.  Go get it.

(Although the Red Sox are still ahead in the standings, it feels  like they are the underdog...)
