Really feel bad for Wakefield. This whole quest for 200 thing seems to be in everybody's head. Anytime he starts, either he plays awfully or the rest of the team does.
Wake really needs to go to the bullpen once Beckett is back in the rotation. Give him the chance to get a win off a mediocre Lackey or Bedard start.
At the risk of eliciting more eye-rolls, the past couple weeks has underlined my concern regarding our pitching and bullpen. The Sox seem equally capable of giving up 10 runs as they are of scoring 10 runs. I can't help questioning the wisdom of trying to win with a lot of hitting and mediocre pitching.
Still, with Beckett, Lester, Bedard, Lackey, and Miller, we at least have a decent starting rotation on paper if everybody can pitch to the best of their abilities in the post-season. The bullpen isn't too bad, either, as long as Matt Albers doesn't play and Dan Wheeler doesn't see too much time. Aceves, Bard, and Pap are basically our only decent arms back there, but perhaps Wakefield and Buchholz can bolster the 'pen.
At this point I could see the Sox losing in their first series the way they did against the Angels in '09, or I could see them getting hot and going all the way.
(now that I've made this post, perhaps the Sox will go on a 10 game tear -- here's hoping)
