Tp for doing all this.
I agree with most your points. You are undervaluing Josh Smith though. How many times has he played with an elite pg? 0. Will he take less ill advised shots playing with Deron Williams than Bibby? Absolutely. Playing next to Deron I expect Smith to have Amare type numbers on offense (a little lower but in the same area). Do you think Amare would average those numbers without Nash? Josh Smith is every bit as athletic as Amare. Amare is a much better shooter, but Smith can make up for those points in offensive rebound put backs. On the back line Smith and Haywood will make people afraid to go in the paint. Then McGee will come in and continue the block party.
Although I think good play from Beaubois puts me in the top spots, the play that I will get from Smith (who is only 24 and should get better) makes my floor 2nd place in the division.
I think comparing Josh Smith to AMare is a battle you'll eventually lose. Amare is 6'10, and a center in small ball, a 4 naturally. Smith is a 3/4, always. He's never comfortable anywhere 100%, and he brings different strengths and weaknesses to both positions. I think he's more 4 than 3, but his total lack of post game will always limit his production. Josh Smith didn't play with a top tier pg in Bibby, but he did play with an elite SG in Joe Johnson, and as a SG, Joe is also an elite ball handler.
Also, while I think Deron WIlliams is the most talented PG out there, he's no steve nash when it comes to passing the ball. Steve Nash is like Josh Smith...you can't quite compare him to anyone else in the league, and all you can really say is "whatever issues you have with him as a player, he gives much more to the team than he hurts"
Joe Johnson is not a creator like Beron Williams.
Josh Smith is an inch shorter than Amare.
He is only 24 and still has plenty of time to develop a back to the basket game.
This quote is a pessimistic view of him. That is all you can really say if you are not a fan of his. I don't know how you can say that he simply gives more than he takes away.
According to basketballreference.com's defensive rating metric he was the 10th best defensive player in the league last year, while shooting 50.5% from the floor (a number that has went up every year since his second year in the league).
Although he did have less points this year he barely took any 3's and took the ball to the rack. He had career highs in field goal % rebounding and assists. Since he's only 24 you can expect the numbers to increase.
Is he the scorer Amare is? No. Could he be close if he had been playing with Nash his entire career? I think so. As a first option you'd rather have Amare because he can create for himself and shoot better. As a second option I'd rather have Smith, because he does everything better by a considerable margin.
I can not understand this hate of Josh Smith on the board. (not directed at you IP but the board in general).
