Nashville Magic:
PG: Jason Terry, Ty Lawson
SG: Joe Johnson, Mike Dunleavy, Roger Mason
SF: Vince Carter/Andrei Kirilenko
PF: Lamarcus Aldridge, Amir Johnson
C: Andris Biedrins, Cole Aldrich, Nikola Pekovic
With a smaller, scoring lineup of Terry/Johnson/Carter/Kirilenko/Aldridge likely. Thoughts? Hate it? Love it? Want to punch half my players in their stupid faces? Feedback is appreciated going into trade season, for sure.
In my opinion, starting Ak47 over Vince Carter is a no-brainer.
What about Dunleavy at the 3?
I feel like with Terry and Johnson already in there he'd be better off starting a defensive player who is capable of running the floor. He's a perfect fit for that back court.
I'd have to disagree with your thoughts abotu allowing ak47 off the bench providing you versatility too. If there was any point where you had 5 bench players you'd be really struggling for points.
Lawson, Dunleavy, Ak47, Amir and Cole is pretty rough. Putting in VC gives you another weapon off the bench with Dunleavy and your other defenders make up for them.
I don't think I would ever have a lineup with all 5 second teamers out there, though. I feel like that's pretty rare to see in the NBA or even college. The good thing about this team is that they have volume scorers and shooters that can carry the offense for long stretches in case of foul trouble or fatigue - Johnson, Terry, Carter, Aldridge, and to a lesser extent Dunleavy are all proficient shooters who can keep the team in the game. Even without AK47 staring, he's still getting 30+ minutes, and a good chunk of those will be with the first team offense. However, through coming off the bench, I have more flexibility to deal with foul trouble, fatigue, or egos. For example:
VC in foul trouble - JT/JJ/AK/LA/AB
JJ in trouble - JT/VC/AK/LA/AB
Big man in trouble - JT/JJ/VC/AK/other big
I think Kirilenko's usefulness there provides a bigger asset to the team than having him start, although I respect and understand your position. Just because Kirilenko isn't starting doesn't mean he's necessarily playing fewer minutes than Carter, and just because there's a starting unit out there doesn't mean that those 5 guys will be playing together at the most important parts of the game. AK47's flexibility is a nice bonus that makes a fluid lineup capable of handling lots of different teams.
