Indiana Pacers:

PG: Derek Fisher
SG: Kobe Bryant
SF: Mickael Pietrus
PF: Tyrus Thomas
C:  Marc Gasol

Bench:
PG:    Jonny Flynn
Wing:  Kyle Korver
Big:   Nenad Krstic

Wow, I like this squad a lot: Solid veteran PG with a nice apprentice, superstar scoring SG, lock-down SF with a shooter off the bench and a nice complimentary front court with length.

In my eyes, at least a Conference championship team.

How do these Lakers Pacers compare to the pre-Gasol Lakers in your eyes?  What about post-Gasol?

You mean Pacers, Roy.  :)  Well, in my eyes:

Post-gasol:  I'll do this first since it's freshest.  I'd say slightly inferior.  I mean the 1,2 are the same.  Pietrus could be argued to be a little worse than Artest(?), but I had them both in the same boat of SFs I was intent on getting (along with Battier, Ariza) with no particular preference of the 4.  Marc Gasol I'd rather have over Bynum because of Bynum's injuries and Gasol is a far superior passer.  He still gives you the same scoring, length, rebounding, and shot blocking that Bynum does.  Thomas is a significant downgrade over Pau.  No question about that.  Defensively, I think they are even maybe I'd even prefer Thomas.  Offensively, Pau is a huge upgrade.

As for the bench.  I think Flynn is a considerably better pg than Farmar.  Korver is better than any wing the Lakers had.  Krstic is a slight downgrade from Odom.  And I haven't finished filling out the bench yet.

So, I say for my starting lineup I'm really only losing a good chunk at my starting PF spot, while my bench as a whole is slightly better.

Pre-Gasol:  Well in 2006-07, Bynum was averaging 8 points, 6 rebs per game.  Luke Walton was their starting SF?  Radmanovic was their starting PF?  I'd say my team is vastly superior to that squad.  Vastly.  Their bench was Odom, Smush Parker, Kwame, Vujacic, Turiaf.  With my current bench and still more picks to come, I'd say with confidence that my starters and bench are both considerably better than those 42-40 LA Lakers in every aspect.

Brandon Jennings
Mike Miller
Lebron James
Ersan Ilyasova
Joakim Noah

I know, I know. Forever it will be known as "the trade". You guys have your opinions on it, I have mine..its done now. Now this is my team.

In my eyes...
Random thoughts on offense: Ilyasova and Miller are both elite 3pt shooters for their respective positions. Jennings and James are both at their best when they are driving, and Noah is mobile and explosive enough to be a fantastic pick and roll player to the rim. Not 20 points per game fantastic, but good enough to get his 10+ a night. James and Jennings are both about average, with Jennings at 37% and James at 33%. This inside-out dynamic I feel will allow for minimum clogging in the lane to stop LeBron and Jennings from driving, and good spacing on the floor. I wish Noah had a better post game, but he's not exactly inept either.

Still a pretty impressive starting 5 in my eyes.  I'm high on Ilyasova.  I guess Jennings is the real lynchpin but having Lebron out there will certainly make his job easier.

The big question, to me, is depth.  We're already at Round 8.  How are you going to fill things out with decent talent?

Well I've got 8(1), 8(20), 9(5), 9(30), so we'll know by the end of the day tomorrow.

Well lets start with the positives:  Its good that you have multiple picks in the next couple rounds to fill out a bench.  You have Lebron James.  You have an elite shooter and very good passer to go alongside Lebron.

Unfortunately, this team is much worse than recent Cavs teams IMO.  I wouldn't say Ilyasova is an "elite" 3 point shooter for his position; he only shoots 34%.  I actually know very little about Ilyasova.  Does he play much defense?  I like your other starting 4 though.  Don't love them aside from Miller, but I like them.  Actually, are you going to expend Lebron's energy guarding the elite wings like Wade, Kobe, and Melo in the East?  Or put Miller on them?  I see this being a team Lebron gets sick of having to carry on his back too much.  We know now that he doesn't want to be that guy anymore.

Hmm... interesting mesh of talent. I'm not sure how I feel about Jennings on this team, but I can see how you like it. He's a scorer who can slash and create his own shot. Has Bron ever played with anyone like that? Lol. I love Noah's hustle and enthusiasm and Miller has always been a binkie too.

In my opinion, more depth at the 4/5, a defensive wing and a 3-point shooting PG would round out your team nicely.

LeBron will absolutely have to check Kobe, especially with him playing in the division. No doubt about that.

Wade? I'm going to need to think on that.

Ilyasova shot .345 (from 3) as a starting 4 this year. Rashard Lewis, the best shooting PF this year shot 39%. Ilyasova's 33.6% ranked for 10th among PF's this year, and that's counting specialists like ________ and _______.

I'd say that's elite.

As far as a defender, rebounder and transitional player...we can visit that later. I think my squad is one of the best defensive units in the league, and I think I can back it up with numbers.

reminds me a lot of the actual bucks that terrorized the eastern conference after the all-star break.

We all know what Bogut can do with a capable driving high energy point guard, and Rondo is better than Jennings, so that's a plus.

I like Mbah a Moute and Ilyasova both better than Harrington at this point as far as being a productive member of a winning team goes, but that's just me. Harrington's defense is lacking.

Which brings me to Maggette. I like Corey Maggette, but he's all about getting his. How is that going to fly with Harrington, who has had a similar MO recently?

I think on the whole the playoffs are within reach, but we're going to need to get there to discuss actual matchups to see how far you go.

You've got great bookends at PG and C (I've always been a Bogut believer, and hope he comes back at 110% and puts up an easy double-double a night next year), but around them you've got 4 me-first gunners who need the ball in their hands to be effective. Bogut and Rondo are unselfish enough to make it work with 2 of those guys in the rotation, but with 4 guys with the same MO, it could be trouble.

Also, Brandon Rush is an incredibly frustrating player. I had Pacers season tickets the past two years, and every time he takes a step forward on the court, he seems to take two steps back the next week. I'm not sure that you'd want to rely on him as a starter. He can put up 25 points one night and completely disappear the next - and his defense is the same way.

Still, the components are there for a really nice team.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

I think you can say the exact same thing about JR Smith.

One place you could improve drastically is trading Smith or Rush for a more team oriented player. Kirk Hinrich comes to mind, so does JJ Reddick.

No, them being white doesn't have anything to do with them being 'team oriented'.

Also you could trade for Mike Miller, Nick Collison, or Luke Ridnour.

Solid points. In this case I think a less talented player with a more defined role would be a good pickup here, though it may seem counter-intuitive. I think you could get a player that's a better fit for this team easily because of the solid players you could dangle.

Where does Griffin fit in all this?

Beyond that love your team, aside from Duhon. I think there were still better options than Duhon on the board when you picked him...although its really only one or two.

A solid big man rotation will drive this team, and should be able to absorb the "Amar'e's defense sucks" arguments (I think the talk of his D is overrated, but I additionally think that Emeka is less talented in the interior that others do, so I guess it cancels out). You've surrounded Stoudemire with guys known for playing with heart, and they won't let him quit on them, which is great.

However, your guards need help. Duhon's value is a product of the D'Antoni system (and he faded badly down the stretch both this year and last). Lee is a nice rotation piece, but I don't know if he can be a starter for a good team yet. However, with Amare/Griffin, I think he's a good piece to have as a kick-out shooter, but you still need a dominant guard to really make this team click.
