I think the Thunder Grizz should be in the running for team of the future. I also think if I darft some defensive versatility as well as some scoring off the bench, my team could be a playoff contender.

PG: Collison
SG: OJ Mayo
SF: ??
PF Jermaine O'Neal
C: Marc Gasol

Gasol, Mayo, and Collison will take major strides this season.
I don't think I can vote for you team as a team of the future. Collison is the only player on the team who I think is a future all-star. (Marc. Gasol might get in as the backup C that is forced on a team but that's it)

I know I dont have your vote Faf! You are low on Gasol and Mayo. Would be beating a dead horse to debate you any more.

Any one else???

I'm sort of Faf's boat.  I'm not nearly as low on O.J. Mayo as he seems to be.  However, I don't see Gasol as a potential all-star, and while Collison is good, I think some of the other young PGs have better players around them.  At PF, there were a bunch of guys I would have picked for your team over J.O.  He's just too old, and has never been much of a locker room leader.

I think if your players hit their potential, you'll have a solid but not great team in the future.

CLEVELAND CAVS :

PG: Monta Ellis
SG:Caron Butler
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Jason Thompson
C : Joel Pryzbila

I think we are shaping up well, we can compete with any team in this draft!
We have a great one two punch with Melo and Monta. Depending on how we draft Butler could be our sixth man getting starter type  minutes off the bench. I like Thoompson in the mix for his rebounding and offense but he needs to learn to be more consistent on the defensive end. Hopefully Pryzbila can play healthy and rebound for us as well.
We plan on finding some shooters and some more front court post presence type players. The trade made yesterday changed the face of this team and we will compete well!!

Thoughts?
L.A. Clippers
Derrick Rose Blake Griffin 4.11 5.3 5.15 6.11 7.15 8.11 9.15 10.11 11.15 12.11 13.15

I don't know enough about Jason Thompson, but just the fact that I don't worries me.

I love the Vanilla Gorrila, but his injury worries me. I think if you're going to compete you need to bolster your PF/C slots with some quality to fill in if necessary.

I think your 1-3 are solid, though I think Tough Juice might work best as a 6th man if you can get a lower usage 2 guard who's more of a defensive guy.

Collison didnt have much talent around him last year and put up great numbers. Now he is surrounded by 3 players so far who can all score efficiently in Mayo, Gasol, and JO.

Regarding JO...you are right about his age (even though he is only 31 without many miles even as a hs guy).

However I expect a big year out of him. He has something to prove. I love the size I have down low. I also plan on adding quite a bit of depth at that position as insurance.

Leadership is definitely an issue I also am looking at going forward. My coaching pick will be important to mentor these young players.

Feel free to discuss your opinions of my team:

Dallas Mavericks:

C: Tim Duncan
PF: Charlie Villanueva
SF: Trevor Ariza
SG: Stephen Jackson
PG: Andre Miller
Other than the fact that I hate Charlie Villanueva as a player, I love everything else. By the way you don't have to thank me for picking Tim Duncan for you.  ;) ;) ;D

Duncan is the 2nd best center in the league, can rebound, play great defense on centers, has the championship pedigree, is a great leader and at 34, still a way above average offensive force.

The Ariza/Jackson wing defense will be excellent as Jackson proved last year that he can guard 2 guards quite well. Miller is that type of PG that is great for a veteran squad and will run a good offense. Nothing spectacular. Nothing fancy. Just solid play.

With a better and/or different starting PF and bringing Villanueva off the bench, I like this club to win the Western Conference. There are still three guys available in the draft that I think would slide into the "role playing starting PF" slot perfectly for this team.

I like Collison but he's young and did what he did for less than half a season. He has great potential.

I like Mayo better than most and think poor coaching in Memphis hasn't developed his talent to the fullest. If he was under Popovich or Sloan or Rivers, I think he would currently be a much better player.

I think Gasol is very good. A top 10 center in this league but his defense is lacking at times.

I just don't get the O'Neal pick. Maade no sense to me whatever. He was about a round and a half too early and selected for the wrong type of team.

Sorry Greenbean, I just don't like what I see so far as a whole but the team isn't whole yet so we will see.

The Seattle Supersonics:

Guards: Brandon Jennings, Courtney Lee
Forwards: Shane Battier, Blake Griffin, Dejaun Blair
Center; Joakim Noah.

We consider ourselves the clear favorites for team of the future, because of the surprising amount of playoff experience of the young players have and their overall talent. We also consider ourselves to have a shot at the playoffs.
I don't think you'll sniff the playoffs unless you get a very high quality back up PG to handle when Jennings is ineffective.

You also need to get some insurance in the front court as right now all your F/Cs have been injured recently and Battier is old.

You've been touting Jenning's ineffectiveness all draft, isn't it possible that he was *gasp* a rookie and hit the rookie wall only to rebound and almost single handedly beat the Hawks?
Rookie wall? He shot below 40% from the field for a full five months of the season. Look at his splits:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jennibr01/splits/2010/

He hit the wall early and never really got back up, he's a streaky player. Without a quality veteran to help level out the team's offense he's in trouble.

Jennings has plenty of potential but he didn't almost single handedly beat the Hawks. I don't even think he was the Bucks best player for much of that playoff series.

I'm not pretending his a future MVP because of a few high scoring games, I'm saying he can easily be the best player on a legitimate playoff team because, frankly, he just was. He was a streaky rookie, does that mean he can't level off and up his consistency? Lord knows players never grow out of their bad habits and mature, especially if they show the leadership and competitiveness that Jennings showed in the playoffs. Nope, that never happens.
But these are all legitimate concerns, all I've said throughout is that he needs a veteran backup to help out.

Bogut was there best player till he got hurt, then they managed to stay in the playoffs. To say Jennings was the best player on a playoff team is inaccurate. Without Bogut playing the majority of the season they weren't a playoff team.

Beyond that I don't think they had a best player during that series. It was a very uneven series. Delfino, Salmons, Jennings all had monster games and some really awful games.

But these are all legitimate concerns, all I've said throughout is that he needs a veteran backup to help out.

With some Hyperbole that I met with scorn.

I meant the actual team in the playoffs and as they took the Hawks to 7 games I think that makes them legitimate. You could argue Salmons was the better player, but I would argue that Salmons had never even sniffed the playoffs let alone be productive in them without playing with a dynamic pg like Rose or Jennings. Salmons is a clearly better player when he's alongside a good PG. Meanwhile, the arrival of another dominant wing scorer may have slowed Jennings ability to recover from his slump.
Point out the hyperbole then. Point out where I've been wrong to raise concerns.

Jennings had three great games, four bad ones IIRC in they playoffs, and I love his potential. But if you're just going
to attack instead of address the concerns, what's the point?

Instead you deflect to Salmons (based on the comment about his and Deflfino's play in one series), which is completely off the point.

Oh the internet, where one can't be mildly sarcastic and self effacing and be certain people won't misunderstand without an emoticon.

You were being, at worst, mildly hyperbolic and I wasn't being remotely scornful. I was teasing.

For what it's worth, Jennings had three great games in the playoffs, three ok ones and one horrible game.

My point about Salmons was not a deflection, but rather an attempt to build up Jennings. Not only is he a very good player by himself, but his presence makes others around him better.

No need to bring the hammer down Faf. I think out of all of use, I take this game the least seriously.

Clips:

PG - Chauncey Billups
SG  - Jason Richardson
SF - Shawn Marion
PF - Kevin Garnett
C - Ben Wallace

Matrix, KG, and Big Ben are all excellent defensive players.  Chauncey and J-Rich are great defensive players.  I think my team works well together.  All unselfish.  All rebounders.  All have extensive playoff experience (37 years total).  Three of my guys have rings.  Great leadership between Garnett and Billups, and Big Shot will be capable of nailing all the clutch shots.  Really no weaknesses after I add depth to my bigs.

I think my back court is gonna tear it up a lot.  Tall, strong, athletic.  Both capable of going lights out from deep.  Richardson is a pretty good go-to-scorer, and Billups has thrived at the sidekick role in Denver.

I also like the versatility and rebounding Shawn Marion brings.  No one is coming into the paint with Garnett and Wallace there.  I hope people don't underrate KG after his recovering season.  He's still a superstar, and I think he will come out strong next year.  He's gonna lead the Clippers AND the Celtics to a championship.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Seattle discuss why you are the clear team of the future over Memphis?

PG: Tyreke Evans       Brandon Jennings
SG: Anthony Morrow     Courtney Lee
SF: Corey Brewer       Shane Battier
PF: Kevin Love         Blake Griffin
C: Andray Blatche      Joakim Noah
Bench                  Dejuan Blair

I honestly believe we win every position battle aside from PG. I thinK Courtney Lee's proven ability to be a starter on a championship contender is huge and puts him over the top of Morrow. Shane Battier is easily a better player than Brewer and will provide the veteran leadership a young team needs and that your team lacks. I believe, although this is one I admit is open to debate, that Griffin will be a tremendous player, similar to Amar'e after the knee surgery but without the motor issues, and that will make him better than Love. Noah is already a better player than Blatche and will continue to be. Blair is a fantastic back up big and was so last season for a playoff team. While my team is young they have extensive playoff experience, which yours lacks, and leadership, also lacking by yours at this moment.

I also believe that it is importnat to have a dominant 4 or 5 to win an NBA title and I believe my front line has the potential to have 2 all nba players and yours doesn't.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Kevin Love is already one of the most prolific rebounders in the NBA today, and he's a better passer now than Griffin will be for quite some time, if he ever gets there.

I think the Griffin-Love debate is pretty heavily in Kevin Love's corner right now, especially if you consider that he's yet to play on a team that will hand him the keys in the post.

I'd argue that Blatche showed all-star potential as a starter last year and while I'd concede Noah is a better rebounder and defender, Blatche is miles ahead offensively.

Lee only started half the games that season for Orlando and Morrow is a better shooter and scorer.
