Caron Butler has an eFG% of 41%, 42% and 43% on his jump shots for the last three years.

Point taken but Butler is a terrific defender. The one weak link in our starting five for defense will be replaced by a plus defender. That's scary. Jamison's scoring off the bench mitigates the loss of Ray's shooting touch I think. Good point though.

Like I said IF this happens, it will be Doc's toughest coaching challenge yet. It's a good problem to have but still the situation could get very sensitive.

I Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ed in my pants when I heard this. Adrian Wojnarowski better not be playing with my feeling. Get'er done!

Here's the question: Does Gil Arenas' and Jar Crittendon's salary NOT being paid count against the cap / lux tax?

Anyone?
Only half of their salary while being paid counts against the luxury tax.

The Wizards save about $4 million from Arenas' suspension ... which I think has them $4-5 million above the luxury tax threshold? Not sure though.

Right, so a larger trade like the one I suggested would put them under the lux tax of $69ish mil.

Team suspension -- salaries count 100% against cap for duration of suspension

League suspension -- salaries count as 50% against cap ...

I disagree, I think he's a very poor man-to-man defender. He doesn't have the lateral quickness to stick with moderate athletes at the small forward position. Nevermind the two guard spot. His team defense is solid enough though.

They need to pull the trigger on this right away, so Washington can't take any other offers!
Washington will wait till the deadline, they still want talent back. This leak is a shot across the bow of all the teams low balling them.

Please keep low balling them guys, please!

I agree with you on this.  But I think Danny should try to push to get this done early.  If it really is the best deal out there right now, he might be well served to put a time frame on it, and then threaten to move on to something else.

Very interesting.  One of the few deals out there that would make some sense.

On the pro side, it'd likely be a shot in the arm and would add depth and another good defender at the 2 spot.

On the con side, it weakens our "best lineup," which was a distinct advantage for us in 2008.

Still, much better than a lot of that crap floating around.

Cool on this team he'll be getting a boat load more layups.
I think it matters in the starting lineup but once Jamison or Rasheed come in for Perkins ... it's not a big deal at all.

The Celtics can just post up Butler or Pierce against whoever has the smaller defender. That would be very effective for Boston + very difficult for opposing teams to handle.

Got it. So considering the Wiz will likely insist on Stevenson going out in the deal, adding Miller would save them about 6-8 million bucks.

So what do think of the prospects of this trade as a whole?

Honestly, this seems too good to be true.  Houston can offer up TMac plus a good prospect too.  Wonder if Washington floated this rumor to up the ante for their guys.

I was thinking the same thing, but I think the reason we make more sense as a trading partner is because we're willing to take on big contracts and aging stars where as Houston wants young talent in return.

Maybe I am overvaluing and maybe you are undervaluing. Can we agree that he is an upgrade over Ray?

The original point I was debating is that he couldn't shoot. He is a good scorer and his defense puts him over the top to me in comparison to Ray.

What makes me really drool about this trade, is the fact that I imagine Ray would be bought out.

Trading Ray Allen's Bird Rights, Scal + Giddens and two first round picks for Butler/Jamison?

Yes please.

When Jamison was in Dallas in that sixth man scoring role, he spent a lot more time down in the paint and around the rim. Got more shots close to the rim and was a more efficient scorer as a result.

That was, by far, his most efficient offensive campaign of his career. I think you could hope for repeat of that from Jamison on this Celtics team.

Plus he's as good as a hand in the face shooter as there is. He's cold blooded, can take over a game, dope crossover, can go to the rack, and shut down a guard or forward.
