It's crazy how Disney ruined both Marvel and Star Wars after taking over.....What a disaster.

I think that Disney has been hit or miss with Marvel.  They have put out some really good stuff, and a few duds.

Star Wars has definitely overall been a disappointment.

Deadpool -- if you liked the first two movies, you'll really enjoy this one.

Trap -- I don't know why this movie was made.  Lifetime movies have more suspense and fewer plot holes.

Given the genres that seem to be most popular here, I?m hesitant to recommend the movie I just saw and really enjoyed.  The movie was Wicked Little Letters on Netflix.   A quirky comedy based on a true story. They could have gone creepy with it but went subtle dark humor instead.
It is not action, adventure, sci-fi, violent,?. Just an easy to watch, strange story with some interesting characters.  Great watch for me and Mrs. NG as she tends toward romantic or feel-good and I?m a bit more edgy drama, dark.  This was quirky enough, funny enough and though it was neither a feel-good or romance, it checked enough boxes for both of us and we both really enjoyed.

Saw "Alien: Romulus" over the weekend.  Thought it was pretty good. I'm a big Alien franchise nerd and thought it was one of the better movies in franchise.  Went back more to the horror theme that the original film excelled at.  The movie takes place btw Alien & Aliens and I thought it did a great job at being a standalone movie but also incorporating elements not just of Alien & Aliens but also nods to the other movies like Prometheus, Alien 3, and even Alien Resurrection (which is a horrendous movie).  I thought most of the fan service was pretty good and only a couple of instances where it fell flat. 

One thing I really liked was the limited use of CGI.  They went old school with the special effects and that was refreshing.  The look & feel was so much better than these blobs of CGI films we get these days.

M. Night Shyamalan really needs to stop making movies. Hasn?t made anything good since ?Signs? 22 years ago.

"Split" was very good. Same with "the Visit."

And "Knock at the Cabin" was decent.

Saw "Alien: Romulus" over the weekend.  Thought it was pretty good. I'm a big Alien franchise nerd and thought it was one of the better movies in franchise.  Went back more to the horror theme that the original film excelled at.  The movie takes place btw Alien & Aliens and I thought it did a great job at being a standalone movie but also incorporating elements not just of Alien & Aliens but also nods to the other movies like Prometheus, Alien 3, and even Alien Resurrection (which is a horrendous movie).  I thought most of the fan service was pretty good and only a couple of instances where it fell flat. 

One thing I really liked was the limited use of CGI.  They went old school with the special effects and that was refreshing.  The look & feel was so much better than these blobs of CGI films we get these days.

Yeah Romulus was solid. And I love practical efffects. I wish there were fewer fast edits but otherwise it was pretty well-made. I miss the beauty of those long creepy shots from the first film.

As to Alien Resurrection, I originally hated it but my opinion has evolved a bit. "Resurrection" is absolutely discordant with the other main films and was a major disappointment as far as advancing the overall plot. But if it didn't have the "Alien" franchise name slapped on it would be a surefire cult classic.

It's quirky, funny, has memorable characters and some truly gross-out scenes. It feels a lot like the Alien comics actually.

I don't blame people for hating it. But if you look at it as a non-canonical side romp it can be pretty darn fun.

While we're on the subject of the "Alien" franchise, have you seen the extended version of Alien 3? It's incredible how much footage they cut out of the theatrical release. I think it works better as a longer film. Makes it feel less like a retread of Alien 1 and more its own little universe. Though I'll still never forgive them for killing Hicks and Newt. Thank god they got better treatment in the comics.

Not a big fan of Alien but I think they have been learning to bring these movies back to its glory days. I thought Prey was the best movie since the original Predator. I think the lesson is going back to its roots instead of making it crazier.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire...  Even by big, dumb spectacle standards this one was a letdown for me.

I thought it was entertaining and although I am not a big fan of big CGI action, for whatever reason the Godzilla/Kong works for me. To me, those movies are purely for the entertainment level. The G-Minus One was really well done, but it lacked the action that I liked.

The new Planet of the Apes was also entertaining although I wish they would have added more action as well. I do love what they have done with those movies and am curious of what is next to come.

Oddity (2024)... unique but predictable horror movie about a blind psychic trying to uncover the truth surrounding her twin sisters murder. I would say it was thoroughly entertaining and there were two parts which genuinely petrified me. It's only 6 bucks to rent on Amazon - id say its worth it.

Watched Fall Guy. It was okay as a 'folding clothes' type of movie but nothing crazy. Action was fun but also gimmicky.

Can't think of the name right now but the new movie on Apple+ with Matt Damon set in Boston was pretty fun. Some pretty unbelievable scenes (as in, not believable) but the action was good, acting great and there were some good funny scenes. Also seeing Boston is always fun. Strongly recommend it if you have Apple.

I have not seen the extended version although I've seen some clips on YouTube and descriptions of deleted scenes on blogs. I know Fincher pretty much disowns the movie and the production woes of the film are legendary.  Like insane meddling from the studio, not having a script when they began production, and layers upon layers of re-writes. 

Despite issues with the story and the insane decision to kill off Hicks & Newt, its a movie that has grown quite a bit on me over the years.   It's a pretty solid Alien movie.
