Saw "Alien: Romulus" over the weekend.  Thought it was pretty good. I'm a big Alien franchise nerd and thought it was one of the better movies in franchise.  Went back more to the horror theme that the original film excelled at.  The movie takes place btw Alien & Aliens and I thought it did a great job at being a standalone movie but also incorporating elements not just of Alien & Aliens but also nods to the other movies like Prometheus, Alien 3, and even Alien Resurrection (which is a horrendous movie).  I thought most of the fan service was pretty good and only a couple of instances where it fell flat.

One thing I really liked was the limited use of CGI.  They went old school with the special effects and that was refreshing.  The look & feel was so much better than these blobs of CGI films we get these days.

I enjoyed it.  The story was decent and the effects were fun, but I definitely was not invested in any of the characters.  Sigourney Weaver as Riley is a tough act to follow.

Saw "Strange Darling" in theaters. Probably one of the best thrillers of the past 10 years. It's one of those movies where going into it knowing next to nothing will result in the best viewing expereince, so i wont say anything more about it.

Yeah, I really liked how it felt more like the original Alien movies in terms of its aura, lighting, and even how the technology was presented. It was very different from the more futuristic depictions in the more recent Prometheus and Alien: Covenant movies.

My one gripe is the CGI of Rook's/Ash's face, particularly with Ian Holm now deceased. I thought it looked awful and really distracted from an otherwise balanced film. I will say that I liked the idea and narrative of bringing the synthetic character of Ash back into the mix, but I thought the execution was awful - to the point where it shouldn't have been included.

Deadpool - loved it. Not as good as the first (which none of them will ever be), but definitely better than the second.

Ricky Stanicky on Amazon Prime - hilarious. It's more of a raunchy, guy's comedy that you would expect from its cast, but I loved it and laughed all throughout the movie. I'm a big Santino/Bad Friends fan and also enjoy Efron and Cena, so that definitely helped my enjoyment of the movie. But worth a watch if you're into that kind of genre of movies.

Agree 100% about CGI Ash. It was terrible and borderline disrespectful. Why not just get a replacement actor? I felt the same way about Tarkin on Star Wars Rogue One. The closeness of the mimicry does not justify the unnaturalness and weirdness of it.

Just recast with a talented actor who will do the role justice.

So i saw "Blink Twice"  and "Trap." "Trap" started promisingly but turned into a slog by the end.

"Blink Twice" was intriguing but didn't quite stick the landing. I knkw it is supposed to be an allegory for Epstein. But Epstein was actually far more sinister in his manipulations, exploiting disadvantaged young people. In this flick, if the exploited characters are older, kinda dumb and make bad decisions.

It was unnecessary.   I understand the timeline aspect of things but based on what we know from canon, it's not necessary that all the androids from that period looked like Ash so it felt pretty needless.  You could've had anyone play the android and I think it would've been fine with audiences.

Hopefully Ian Holm's family got paid handsomely from it, though.

It's crazy how Disney ruined both Marvel and Star Wars after taking over.....What a disaster.

I think that Disney has been hit or miss with Marvel.  They have put out some really good stuff, and a few duds.

Star Wars has definitely overall been a disappointment.

It?s baffling how Lucasfilm does business. The actors call the fans the worst names. They should be defending the fans publicly. They have created this narrative that would make someone think the majority of fans are horrible people instead of a small percentage of weirdos. Star Wars fans are also fans of a bunch of other IPs. They?re insulting a massive amount of people.
Instead of catering to their built in audience they?ve left them behind and tried to create brand new fans with material Al ost just for a niche group. They operate like angry people.
Fans in their late 40?s to 70?s snd 80?s would  go see stories about original characters multiple tones and make a sure billion. Baffling.

That was my reaction as well. Just straight up horror . Jump scares. Nothing thoughtful like Prometheus. But that?s what sells.

Watched Wonka. I think Chamalet is an awesome actor but I thought it was pretty average. I?m biased though. Loved Gene Wilder. I think he?s pretty tough to follow.

Hmmmm. I thought it was really good. Its true it not a movie asking deep questions. But the action was great, the tension was palpable, and the characters were solid.
